Because of the book my Mom and I wrote (click here for more info. about it…or on the sidebar), I’ve lucked out and been able to go to Women’s Conference and Education Week this year. I’ve never been to either before in all my life. I always hear everyone talking about how great they are, but I’ve never been.

I must say all those people singing their praises weren’t kidding around. Both events were very well done and inspiring. I personally liked Women’s Conference better…by leaps and bounds. But we can’t take that judgment at face value because I was only at Education Week for a few hours and therefore didn’t get the whole bang for my buck. (See Women’s Conference notes here and my biggest Women’s Conference epiphany here.)

Maybe I would have felt differently about Education week had I been able to make it up for the part my parents spoke at the day before I arrived. Because boy howdy, they are some great speakers. (Yes, I’m a little biased, but I think many would agree with me on this one.)

But I couldn’t get away that long. Instead I flew up to Utah bright and early in the morning one day last week, went to a few classes with my mom and sister, signed some books at the bookstore, and flew back as the sun set that night.

My little business trip.

I must admit it was kinda fun.

Out of that sea of people roaming around the campus, we happened to run into our publisher, Jana:She has been so amazing with helping us on this book.

And one of my biggest highlights from my little get-away was that I got to hang with my sister who just got back from her mission in London:
(She is astounding…as a missionary, and as a person, oh, and she’s quite a good book salesman too…love you Char!)

It was fun to walk around campus with these lovely ladies:
And of course, there’s not a whole bunch better than getting your parents almost to yourself for the day.

I don’t know why I feel like I always have to take pictures out the dim, scratched-up super-thick airplane windows, but I do. Here’s the grand canyon:

And the sun setting on a beautiful day:

  1. I was sitting at Education Week last Tuesday thinking………..I bet Shawni is here somewhere. I would love to see her. I was there with my mother also. She is 85 so we didn't leave the Marriot Center. That was a near miss. It looks like you were there on Monday. I have given your book to so many. We all love it….

  2. Lucky you. I adore simple days away even when they are busy ones. I miss the days of flying out for a trip for the day and returning home totally exhausted but renewed!

  3. I am almost done reading your book. I can hardly put it down (which resulted in staying up waaay to late last night.) It is so inspiring and has given me so many wonderful ideas as my kids get older. My oldest is only 3, so I feel like I still have a few more years to get into some good habits. My husband and I have been thinking about our mission statement, and I really loved what you said about being your own kind of "best mom." Thanks for writing it!

  4. I could totally see your cut arms from your P90X. Wow! 🙂

Ok, onto other things…it's so nice to get away and have time to think and breathe without the noise of homework, carpools, etc.

I attended Education Week on Friday for the first time ever. I liked four of the six classes I went to. One was a bit too EFYish for my liking (I'll probably get hate mail for that). For the most part, I took great notes, was inspired to do better and elevate my game.

Wish our paths could have crossed!

  5. Love the red necklaces you both are wearing..how cute! It was fun to run into you at Park City. I have lived in UT for 4 yrs now and haven't made it to the Woman's Conference. I am going to make it a point to go in May. Glad to hear Lucky Lucy is doing well! Hugs-

  6. Shawni,
I knew you would be there this year! I read your blog every day and have it on my side bar. I love to read what you write and I love, love your photography! I have two 3 year old grand daughters who are named Grace and Lucy. You and your husband have raised amazing children. I expecially love Lucy and her tenacity. I am glad she is getting to go to the preschool. You are such an advacate for her.
I raised my three children reading your parent's books and especially loved "A Joyous Mother Of Children". I was delighted to find your blog on a friend of my daughter's blog and continue reading about you and your sisters.
For Mothers Day, I gave my three daughters your mom's and your book. They loved it.
I spent Monday in the hotel with my 3 year-old grandaughter and my 7 month-old grandson while my daughter attended your parents four classes…what a lift it was for her. Thanks you to all of you Eyres!! So glad you got to come.

  7. Getting ready for fall has me remembering the Christmas craft projects we used to do when we all lived in Penderbrook. I wish we could all get together one day and make a wreath!
