…to our beloved 2009 Christmas Cards.

We finally took them down last week.
We’re still getting used to how naked the house looks without them.

We are all in love with Christmas cards over here. We love to see how everyone’s changing and growing up from all over the place.

It makes me feel old to see some of our friends with teenagers.

It makes me feel awed at the creativity some people come up with.

But mostly it makes my heart swell up with love and appreciation for so many people that we love so dearly and who have made our lives better in one way or another.

We loved them all but these ones were voted “the most creative.”

Now I suddenly don’t care a bit about the mail any more. Thank you, Christmas season, for making mailbox visits so much fun.

post-edit: some have asked what I do with the cards when we take them down. I cut them down as much as I can (for space-sake) and put them in a slip-in easy scrapbooks from Target, one for each year. We pull them out each Christmas. I loved listening to my kids’ comments this year as they oooooo’d and ahhhhhh’d about how so-and-so has changed so much, etc. They love to look back through the old books.

  1. I'm curious to know how you organize them each year after you take them down. Do you have a certain place? I LOVE your kitchen … and your blog! 🙂

  2. We do this too! And on the cupboards, too. And the books after — I tell you what, great minds do think alike!

Such fun things you're up to — I want to document more when I read your blog!

  3. Thanks for the idea of the christams card albums. I am glad that you have those "you might also like" spots at the end of your post. I clicked on "Lucy Update." I din't know the extent of everything.

  4. I still have mine up..I usually feel the urge to take them down around Feb 1st…I loved reading your list of real life stuff…so much is so familiar! And I love that cute Max called you to look at the sunset! Your training him well…his wife will thank you one day!

  5. Just going through some of your old posts and I cannot believe how many Christmas cards you receive. I am so embarrassed to say that I still have mine to send out, yep its true still waiting for a few words from me and stamps. Wouldn't you still like to get one in the mail, even though its almost March? I also love your kitchen, its beautiful!

My son who is 10 just saw a picture of Lucy and he thinks she is the cutest thing in the whole word. I told him about her and he was sad. I told him to remember her in his prayers. I will pray for strength for you and your family also.

BTW I have a Claire too, she is 5. Just love meeting others that have a Claire and we call her Claire-Bear!
