Our last child has graduated from “nursery” at church to the “Sunbeam” class.

No, she can’t believe it either.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about this.
I mean, she’s my BABY. It made my heart flutter a little bit to go in the Primary room and see her sitting happily on the “big-girl” chairs next to her best buddy Emma.

It was all I could do to tear myself away to go listen to Dave’s lesson. I wanted to sit and just watch her. But if she saw me I realized it could be trouble, so I snuck quietly out the back.

Claire’s report from Jr. Primary: Lu was an angel with her arms folded the whole time.

Her teacher may have a different report, but I’m hanging on to Claire’s for now.

These next pictures are un-related to the grandeur of Sunbeams, but when pictures make my heart melt, the rule is that I have to include them, related to the topic or not.

  1. So sweet! I remember well when my baby went into Sunbeams:'( It's such a bitter-sweet moment but now he's 24…before you know it, she'll be driving!

These pics made me want to just say hi. They warmed my heart. The one of her with her eyes closed hugging her sister brought a lump to my throat.

  3. My baby is a Sunbeam, too! I'm like you, part of me can't stand it. I think I'm one of those people who would end up with 15 kids if I didn't have a husband that said "No Way!"
Great pictures, by the way. I try so hard to take good ones, but I don't have the training or the equipment to get what I want. I think every mom should take photography classes! I'm convinced that no other "field" could bring as much long term joy!

  4. Where did the time go? She was just this little baby we were all fighting to hold and snuggle. What darling pictures of Lucy. She is so darn cute. Thanks for sharing your family with us. I love your posts.

  5. Shawni, I found your blog through Tara (Bloomfield) Butler and I fell in love with it! Your enthusiasm for motherhood and photography and the Gospel etc. is so inspiring! I just wanted to post today because the pictures of Lucy absolutely melted my heart!! I love all your photos, but these just made me want to hug your little Lucy! Thank you for sharing!

  6. Shawni,
I just finished your book: A Mother's Book Of Secrets, and I wanted to let you know how truly inspiring it was for me. I had a neat experience while living in Dallas for the summer(I currently live in Tucson), I met a cute girl from the area and we got to talking and discovered that we had daughters the same age. We also confided in each other that we were at the temple to receive insight as to how to raise very sprited three year olds. She invited me to come to her home for a play date, and later told me she felt prompted to have me over. When I went to her home I found that she was this incredible super mom; eight children, beautiful home, and amazing perspective on motherhood. When I asked her what the secret was she said, "I live by the Eyre books!" That was my answer and why I feel like she was prompted to invite me over.I felt like I really needed to buy these books as well. So I think I purchased almost every book your parents have written and I am so excited to practice the valuable insights I have gained. Thank you for revealing so much of yourself through your book and sharing the things you have learned. Like I said I was inspired; it's made me want to be better and I feel a renewed drive to be ever so present with my children and lose myself in the most incredible career I will ever have. Thanks so much for your role in that :O)

  7. You have no idea how thrilled I was when I saw that Emma and Lu were going to be together again in Sunbeams! It made the transition SO much easier! It was so fun to see them sitting so well! And you can take my word for it too….she did awesome!

  8. How cute! When we told my niece, Gigi, that she would be in Primary last Sunday she was so excited. She burst out, "Am I FOUR?!?!" lol no, she has until May, but she still sat pleased as punch during all of Singing and Sharing time. Adorable!
