Let me introduce the Queen of our household: Oh wait, you already knew that.

But lately more than ever his girl rules our house.

And quite unfortunately for the rest of us humble dwellers, she rules with an iron fist.

What she says, goes. Period.
Yes, it’s hard to tell this face “no.”

(I personally think she gives a bunch of thought to how to best rule the roost…she is one talented lady because she’s got us all wrapped around her fingers tight as a vise!)

She is spoiled as can be.

I blame it on these three and their big-brother-who-doesn’t-like-to-be-in-pictures:You see, when Lucy says “Jump,” they scramble to ask “How high?”

They all cater to her every demand.

Because they ADORE her…and she demands respect.

And I blame us, her parents, because we trained them to do that…because her scream is like thousands of fingernails scraping down a chalkboard all at the same time.
She’s not gonna like it but we have to start the “school of hard knocks” …the sooner the better.

I had a serious “emergency conference” with the four older kids the other day. I sat them down and told them we all have to quit being so darn nice or this “Queen” is going to have us sleeping out on the street before we know it.

So, we’ll give being more tough our best shot. But it’s going to be an uphill battle to “un-spoil” this girl because 1) it’s no easy task to ignore her wishes (or her wailing), 2) when she turns on the charm we are magnetized to please her, and 3) she’s our “baby” and we all just love her so darn much all we want to do is squish her cheeks…even when she bats us away with a mean “NO!”.

  4. My little sister was 10 years younger than the three of us older ones. She was SPOILED to the hilt!!! She screamed for *sweet tea with lemon no stir* (put lemon in my tea, make sure it has sugar and DO NOT stir it up). We gave it to her.

She is now 41 with three girls of her own. The spoiling only hurt US because she was hard to deal with at times…little sister is fine!

  5. Oh Shawni…this is the first time I have ever left a comment on a blog of a person I have never met!

  6. this post made me laugh (sorry πŸ™‚ without knowing her I can just imagine how she rules your house! it's completely understandable though, when she's SO DARN CUTE!!!!! we have an almost 2 year old that rules our house, so i hear what you're saying!!! Good luck with the 'training'!

  7. It's GOOD to be Queen. Until your subjects decide to revolt. Best wishes to you. It will be tough, but like it or not, you know you are helping her in the long run.

  8. Yes, good luck with that!
Your kiddo is too cute for words, and I think this without even knowing her!
I love this post, everything about it. The reality of love, the joys of parenting….ahhh so stinkin' hard some days! Your older crew is precious and Lucy is very lucky to have her own fan club.
I hope the new rules go smoothly…

  9. She is totally adorable. Tell us how the schooling goes with her. I have heard so much about your book, but have yet to read it. I might just have to give it a try. Love all your posts, you run your family the way I hope mine is in few years!!!

  10. Beautiful Queen! You serve your queen best by helping her obey and become better… I'm sure plenty of queens have reigned down terror on their loyal servants that only had their best interests at heart. Good luck πŸ™‚ My little sister screamed a LOT as a kid, but my parents eventually helped her grow out of it and she's a lovely person now.

  11. Aww the Queen of everything! She deserves a medal for knowing how to rule her roost πŸ˜‰ I say this because pretty much that was me 20+ yrs ago! Ah good luck and may you all not get a swift kick to the street. Afterall the hard knocks are meant to be shared and you did mention once it was her favorite song! My mum always blamed the sibs for how I turned out. But eventually the hard knocks and I met and it wasn't pretty. Better to get it over with now than later, but ooh how can you say no to that lil cute face that one could love on every second of every day?!
