As of last Saturday soccer is over.

Hallelujah!!!

Wait, did I just say that out loud??

Seriously though, Grace’s face as she ran through the “parent tunnel” after the last game (below) pretty much summed up how I was feeling to be d-o-n-e. Done with soccer practices clear out in Timbuktu on Tues, Wed, Thurs AND Friday nights squelching out family dinner time and games filling up our Saturdays. Done with scrambling to gather game snacks and water bottles. Done with searching high and low for random lost soccer balls or shin guards. Done with Lucy screaming in the car as we drive to and fro.

Yes, we have had awesome carpools for both girls so we didn’t have to drive out there that much but sometimes I feel like I’m just wading through molasses trying to get everyone where they need to be while trying to wait patiently for Lu to follow me and usually bringing along a gaggle of friends with Claire since it just happens that they’re there when we need to leave.
Was it worth it?

You bet.

A hundred times over.

I LOVE watching these girls love something so much.

And I love watching them work HARD.

And build great relationships:
I just think we’re due for a little break.

Despite the fact that the girls’ faces are so darn cute as they list the reasons they are begging to sign up for Fall soccer and summer camps.

I’m reclaiming my kids for a bit.

Just a few more of these games:(more on that later) and tennis lessons, and piano lessons, gymnastics, recitals, etc., then they’re MINE…for the whole summer.

I really, really wouldn’t trade all this…just ready for a break.

I can’t wait.

  1. I got your blog out of the back of your book and have LOVED peeking in. I am always trying to think of ways to help my kids better or be a better mom and you are such a great example for me to follow! I copied and did the chalk board for quotes for our home and I love it!
    Thanks!

  2. Love it! I am feeling that way with two kids right now! Ice skating, ballet, swimming lessons and baseball…but it's so fun to watch them, I agree! Such a blessing to have the opportunities to be involved in so many activities…but definitely nice to enjoy the summer and relax…not in the car 🙂 Take care!

  3. Oh, amen! My daughter plays on a competition team so we are a soccer family YEAR ROUND… two games a week, two practices a week…not to mention my son in regular soccer with one practice a week and a game every saturday….ugh. She has a passion for it, so it makes it totally worth it, but sometimes between the soccer, piano, karate, school, friends, and baseball, it gets insane. Why do we do this to ourselves again? i guess seeing their little smiles make it all worth it. Whew! I'm seriously tired from listing our crazy schedule.

  4. UMMM HOW OLD IS MAX? MY SON ALSO PLAYS IN GYFL? AND HE IS BLUE????

AND I HAVE TO ADMIT, WHEN WE DID DO SOCCER, I WAS SO BEYOND HAPPY THAT THE FIELD IS 4 MILES FROM OUR HOUSE. IF I WANTED TO BE A MEAN MOM, I COULD MAKE EM RUN. ALAS, THE BOY HAS MOVED ONTO TACKLE AND AIN'T TURNING BACK. I FEEL YOUR PAIN WITH ALL THE PRACTICING AND FOOD… UNFORTUNATELY I AM THAT BAD MOM THAT DOES THE TAKE OUT ON MOST PRACTICE DAYS. ONLY DUE TO THE HUBBYS SCHEDULE AS WELL.

IS MAX PLAYING FOOTBALL RIGHT NOW? IF SO, I CAN NOT BELIEVE I HAVE NOT RUN INTO YOU AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. I FEEL LIKE WE LIVE THERE SOME WEEKENDS…..
