Things I want to remember from the end of the school year:

–As the last “i”s were dotted and “t”s were crossed on Elle’s country report on France I think I breathed a bigger sigh of relief than she did. Phew! We had some late nights getting ready to turn that baby in.
She did an awesome job and now I think we are going to have to plan a trip to France some day.

She made crepes for her whole class for extra credit.(She can make a mean crepe…thanks, Ryan, for the great recipe.)I got to sneak in and watch her oral report. She was shaking like a leaf but I only knew that because I am her mom. She looked confident and did great.
This is her “polyhedron” she did for part of the report. Wow, that was a bunch of work for a sixth grader and I’m so glad. I like my kids to be pushed any way they can.

–I finished up my last Art Masterpiece lessons in my kids’ classrooms. Man alive, I love that program.
(Claire took a few classroom shots.)
–We had the annual Art Walk during Family Fun Night. These were the bulletin boards a couple other moms and I worked on along with the cute kids who helped.

–I got to go to “Muffins for Moms” in Grace’s third grade classroom. Love that sparkly girl.

–I want to remember the cute kids who have met at our house each morning before school:
(and how much I love how Lucy looks in this picture).

–how Elle looked as she played her violin as a sixth-grader:
…and that they got a “superior” rating at some concert they did at a local high school.

–The sixth grade did their last concert at their own school too.

I would have been a little teary-eyed about that fact except that Lucy was doing acrobatics on the bleachers and crying because I wouldn’t let her turn my iPhone volume up full blast.

Note to self: it still isn’t a good idea to get locked in at the top of bleachers with Lucy during a concert…no escape route. Elle didn’t seem to be too bothered by it. I guess she’s used to those shenanigans.

–Lucy had a swim class:
She loved the first lesson, screamed her head off on the second and third, and then decided to grin and bear it through the rest. What a trooper her teacher was.

–My sister-in-law and mother-in-law came to town as well as one of Dave’s cousins so we celebrated with a girls-night-out:
Love these women….and Dave’s dear Dad below too.
–Grace & Claire did a little informal gymnastics-tricks-show-off class for us parents.
…and now I want to paint a room in my house this color (not really, it’d be a little bright for a house), but I love how it makes the light look.
Let’s pretend there’s not a head in front of Claire’s one-handed cartwheel.

Grace came late straight from her end-of-school swim party.
And Claire got sick of pictures:
But then she perked up.

–One of my very best friends from high school came to visit for a few days. She was such a good sport to put up with all the end-of-the-year parties and hoopla we had to bounce around back and forth to while she was here. She brought everyone bandannas and these cool water bottles.…which promptly made my kids think she was even more of a superstar than they already did.

(they’re applying the stickers she brought to the waterbottles…very mesmerizing stuff)
Love that Mo.

–Claire, after much work, finally earned her “real” library card when she passed off enough of her sight reading cards at the end of the year.
She was as delighted as could be about that thing.

–The older kids had their piano recital:

Max and Elle did a duet:
…and Grace did one with her teacher.
And there you have it, that about wraps up that school year that already seems to have been so long ago now that we’re into summer. …which, even though we’ve had seven dentist appointments in the last three days, I’m still head-over-heels in love with by the way.

  3. I love love love the fact that your kids are so involved with music. It's the best. All of the pictures are fabulous, of course, but the last part…the part about the dentist??? You'd better be in love with him to spend that kind of time at his office! That's crazy!!!

  4. Rebecca, the dentist appts were not only cleanings but stuff like getting teeth pulled, etc. I know, not such a fun summertime activity!

  6. My mom does Art Masterpiece at the grandkids schools in Arizona, and boy do I wish we lived there if for only that program. Being a wannabe art history buff, it makes me really jealous everytime she talks about it (she raves just as much as you do). Lucky Gilbert people! Sunny weather AND art masterpiece. I'm a little jealous.

  8. I recently found your blog and I have really enjoyed reading. How old are your kids, typically, when they start piano? My daughter is 4 and I always thought I would start her in Suzuki this upcoming Fall, but now I'm not sure. How old was your oldest when she started violin?

I've read a few of your parenting entries to my husband and he said he knew your brother at BYU and has met your parents a few times. He says you have an amazing family!

  9. This makes me SO happy! I love the art, the gymnastics and the swimming but I especially love the music! Seeing that piano recital stuff and Elle playing with such great form in the orchestra just warms my heart! Thanks for all it took to get bring all that to pass!
