I love that these two go to junior high together. I love it so much that it makes me mourn that I didn’t have ALL my kids 14 months apart….(just a little, teeny bit until I remember how tough that was…)

I love that their sweet relationship is blossoming even more because they share that school, and the things that go on there.

I love that Elle will tell me about everything from how some girls bring eyelash curlers to primp with after P.E. and so-and-so’s mom brought in cake for lunch, and that spurs Max to tell me more too.

I love how Elle comes home and tells stories about how kids always ask her if she’s Max’s sister. And how she overhears girls talking about how cute he is.

I’ve been looking forward to the junior high “shadow your student day” like a kid looks forward to Christmas. I love to see first-hand what my kids are up to all day without me around. Max kept sheepishly suggesting that since I went with him last year, maybe it was Elle’s turn to have a tag-along this year. I reassured him I’d be sure to spend some time with both of them, and not to worry because I’d have my arm draped around his shoulder as much as possible when I was with him. He was super excited about that. 😉

And then I realized the darn shadow your student day is smack dab in the middle of next week…when we will be far away at the National Institute of Health. Darn it. I’ll miss that little window of seeing what my kids are up to. Maybe I’ll have to sneak in and embarrass Max another day.

How come I never knew how fun “big kids” would be?I guess I was too mesmerized by the baby stage I had drooled over for my whole life. But man alive, I must say that I sure like these big kids.

A lot.

I am one lucky mother.

  1. As a former middle school teacher, I can attest that those years are so interesting to watch and it's wonderful to see what kind of adults they start to become. Enjoy!!!

  2. You are amazing… Your outlook on life, your energy, your drive, your photography. Seriously. You amaze me.

  3. I am so glad to know that having your kids 14 months apart was rough for you too! My oldest two are 17 months apart and these last two are 13 months apart. It is rocking my world! 🙂 Of course I wouldn't trade it for anything, but it's nice to know there are some perks down the road with having them so close in age! As always, love catching up on your blog!

  4. Man these kids are gorgeous! I always wished I could have a Harry Potter cape to walk around the high school with so now one could see me but I could see EVERYTHING! Sorry you have to miss that fun day!

  5. it may seem random, but you have no idea how much i love this. my first 2 are only 17 mo. apart…parker is 4 and natalie is 3, and i feel like we're just starting to emerge from how hard that was and begin on the part where it's actually easier to have them so close. i love thinking of them going through junior high and high school together…i just hope and pray every day that they are close. they are now, and hopefully, nothing changes that. so thanks!

  6. i'm so glad to hear you like the "big kid" stage….i have 4 little ones (6,5,3,1) and i'm NERVOUS for the big kid stage. it better be as awesome as you say it is 🙂

  7. It is fun, isn't it? Celia and Christian have so many secrets that they share about jr high. It's really brought them together. If I get one giving me a tell all, the other will jump in too. And it is so funny to see Celia's friends flirt with her "baby" brother.

  8. I read your blog from time to time but have never commented. I just have to this time as this post is about junior high. I went to junior high with David and Max looks just like him. All the girls thought David was so cute and I am sure he has told you about the Coverse Gang. All your kids are beautiful.

  9. Big kids are awesome! In a whole new way. And then they start wanting to drive your car & that's really weird! But then they can run errands for you & that's totally awesome!!

  10. Ugh, I have a 1 year old and a 2 year old (13 months apart) and my goal is to not cry by the end of the night. It is good to hear that you went through the same thing and survived.

  11. You are just a doll of a mother! Your kids are all gorgeous. So fun that you have the talent to capture them just as they are in your photographs. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying even the more "grown up" stage. I've been so sad that my littles are growing so fast- your post helped me realize it really is okay, all stages are so fun:)Thanks!!

  12. My oldest is a 6th grader and spent a week away at a school sponsored camp. it was the adventure of a lifetime! He is the only LDS kid in the school. What an experience he is having. I feel the same way about seeing him grow up- I almost feel like I could let go of that burning ache for "one more baby"… (but then I see that same 11 year old cuddling a cute baby at church and it comes right back. ;))
