I’ve heard it said that the best camera is the one you have on hand.

I’m pretty good at carrying my camera around with me, but sometimes, just sometimes, I’m left with nothing but my cell phone.

Here’s an update from my phone:
This is how Lucy colors.
All dark colors and very meticulous.
Sometimes it makes us worry, but most of the time we just find it quite interesting.

Max earned his “Life” scout award. And he gave me a pin about it. Which is a good thing, because I’m not much of a scout-helper, but I kicked him in gear for this one.

I started a new tradition of running to school with the girls while they ride their bikes and I push Lu in the stroller:
Unfortunately that tradition only lasted one day. Shoot, I better get back on that one…

Grace and Claire take self-portraits like they’re going out of style:

Lu takes interesting pictures:

This is where I found Lu after searching for her at Old Navy for what seemed like an eternity:
She was just making friends with the mannequins, jack-o-lantern in hand filled with her princesses. (Yes, I do know that it’s March, not October…not sure how she found the pumpkin…)

When I go volunteer in Grace’s classroom she begs me (with puppy-dog eyes) to bring Lucy along. She and her whole class go ga-ga when see Lucy walk in.
Not so sure about how her teacher feels about that…

How can you not take a picture when you look in the back seat and see this?

Not sure the background on why we have this one:Nor do I have an explanation as to why it is so very grainy.

Taking video with your phone, although admittedly poor in quality, helps capture the progress your son is making on the piano in a much more incognito manner:

There you go. My first iPhone update.

  2. Lucy fits right in with the display, you might almost miss her if it weren't for the pumpkin.
I notice that she wears a pink necklace in all of her pictures. Does she put her jewelry on herself, or do you ask her if she wants to wear it?

  3. I really enjoy reading your blog. I am amazed how many things your kids are involved with and how involved you are too. Can you share a post in just "how you manage the house"? 5. Your posts ALWAYS make me smile. This one was a particular blessing for me. Thanks for the reminder to see the joys in everyday life. Shawni, you're an inspiration. These random iPhone pictures are what I needed today. I love Lucy and her pumpkin blending in with the mannequins! I also love the picture of you and your hub–for no reason at all.
    Thanks for sharing.

  7. I think your phone pics look pretty impressive! I did a post like this awhile back and my iphone pics were full of noise! It’s all good though. I still love the precious moments I was able to capture!

Your kiddos are just too precious and the one of Lucy standing with the mannequins made me chuckle.

  8. i love reading your blog. at times it makes me cry (especially on your posts about motherhood) and at times it makes me laugh – like today, on how lucy fits right in with all the mannequins. most of all, your blog makes me appreciate life itself and the part i play in it. belated congratulations on being the young mother of the year because you truly deserve it πŸ™‚

  9. Aww, Lucy looks so adorable in Old Navy!

I love looking at the pictures that my four-year-old takes. The ones he takes in the back seat of the car really give me a feel for what he sees when we're on the go — his shoes, the seat in front of him, the toys on the seat, etc. Sometimes he even takes self portraits, which are especially fun! πŸ™‚

Also, iLove my iPhone too. πŸ™‚

  10. the picture of lucy with her Old Navy friends is a riot! she always looks so adorable with her perfect hair and adorable dresses, even if she's a little early in her halloween preparations.

Love the pictures. I think Lucy may be a genuis besides being a fashion model! That picture is amazing! I think she can see the dark colors better. Fascinating, imaginative and adroit.
