We are winding up to wind down with school around here.

At about this time each year I get cabin fever.

I get so excited for summer I can hardly stand it.

It’s the time of year that there is a commitment every other minute…a party here, an awards ceremony there, recitals galore, campaign running (more on that later)…this is when schools cram it all in.

It’s all exciting and exhausting, and it makes me long for taking that deep breath of release to welcome my favorite time of year: when that last school bell rings.

I feel tired for all the administrators at the schools because boy howdy, they knock themselves out with all the end-of-school events.

Grace got a special award from the Mayor for her outstanding trustworthiness:

Claire got chosen for her art to be put in the art show.
They make a big deal about this and display the art at a local store for all the parents and friends to cram in and take a look at (and to sell more stuff at the store I’m sure :). Amidst the other hoopla going on this year unfortunately we didn’t make it. It made my heart sink, especially when I found Claire’s masterpiece on the garage floor having been run over by a few bikes. Claire was still pleased as punch to take a picture with the poor mangled thing:Elle got inducted into the National Jr. Honor Society:
So did this guy:
But he was too “above” going to the ceremony since he’ll have a chance to be in the “real” honor society when he starts HIGH SCHOOL next year. Oh boy that’s killing me.

Grace got an award for academic night for her grades:
We are proud of her.
We’re so thankful for her teacher too…Claire has been enamored sitting in audiences.
(Lucy has been left home with babysitters.)

We stayed up all night for a few poster projects:
Elle dropped her violin one more time and smashed it in preparation for her concert tonight 🙁

And we’re trying our best to eek out the remainder of any life left in school shoes ’til it’s bare feet and non-stop flip-flops.Oh yes, summer can’t come soon enough!

  2. I know life is crazy right before school gets out. What are some fun activities you have planned for the summer? I need some ideas. Thanks.

  3. I have so many people right now that are complainingn about summer vacation coming up….I am certainly in the minority and they look at me like I am CRAZY when I say I am excited for it! Glad we're on the same team!:)

  4. Where do you buy your kids clothes? I know it's a really silly question, but I love grace's dress in this post. I sure don't find things that cute at Target!

  5. I can't believe how big Elle and her friends have gotten! I miss them for Caitlin! Still miss 1st Grade Mom's. Is hard to believe high school is just a year way for them. Yikes! I hope your summer comes soon! The end of the year kills me too–and this time with a newborn it's plain nutty! Miss you! Darcy U.

  6. You should be so proud of your kids!! (I know you are!)

That last thing made me laugh. My daughter's uniform shoes are suddenly too tight, but there is NO WAY I am buying new ones two weeks before school is out!!

  7. I love the shoe photo! Especially because I was hoping for the same thing, only to find out that my 5 year old had his shoes MYSTERIOUSLY thrown into the pond…ya know the one, the one with all the stinky, muddy, slimy tadpoles!?!? So, after he wore his snow boots and his brothers snow boots for 3 days to school, we finally broke down and bought him some real shoes. Only to have them covered in mud within the hour of bringing them home! (Nice Utah weather…I should be able to have all of us have sandals by now. Supposedly we're going to flood like we did in '83!)

What wonderful accomplishments your children received! Good job to them!
