My post for today is over here at Kristen Duke Photography as part of her series on “Decorating with Portraits.” (As you may know, I’m quite particular and passionate about what goes on our walls so I was honored she would ask me to participate.) Kristen has been doing this all month with different guest-posters every day and there are some great ideas being shared over there. She also has a bunch of great photography tips and that book on her sidebar about saying “no” to auto on your camera sure sounds like it’s a good one.
When you’re done over there come back and check out the new tabs I finally put across the top of this blog. I’m so happy to have those done because they will answer a bunch of questions I get quite regularly.Enjoy and happy Monday!

  1. I don't know you, but I have found you through your parents' articles in the paper and am a new reader. 🙂 I just wanted to let you know I just read your "Disclaimer" and I love love love it. That is how I feel about my blog. I completely understand how people can look at blog after blog and get more and more depressed. I am a mother to 4 kids, my oldest is 5, and I am one of those moms who was just born to be a mother, and I like to write funny stories and find humor and joy in my day to day life, as well as try to be as real as I can. But I too don't want to depress people, I know people who have just the wrong idea about me and think I never yell at my kids and am just happy all the time (NOT TRUE!) and on the opposite side people think I surely must be hiding how miserable I am because of my life with 4 tiny ones. Neither are true and I try not to let it bother me and just be real, cause real is I LOVE being a mother and that is one reason I have found that I love your blog is you emit such joy from motherhood, and that is how I feel. Anyway just wanted to tell you that you summed up how I feel about blogs in your disclaimer and definitely made me feel better too that you are human just like all of us. 🙂 Don't know if that made sense… but thank you for your writing and tips and you have a beautiful family. 🙂 Erika

  2. Wow. Love the changes to your blog:) Of course with the beautiful people that surround you and the combination of your photography skills, you can't go wrong:) I am a big fan of your photography, you just have a way of making colors vibrant and capturing the emotion in people!

  3. Hi Shawni, I came across your blog about two months ago and am so glad I did! I had my first baby in June and am loving every minute. Your blog has helped me to better realize that life really does move so quickly and we need to take advantage of what's going on in the present. My family didn't do much together growing up and I absolutely love hearing about all the things you guys do together, big or small. I'm so in love with my new little family and am looking forward to every day and how we can grow closer together. I know you've said that things aren't perfect, but you really are an inspiration and I find your blog very refreshing 😀

P.S. We have a D90 and I am definately putting it to good use 🙂 Can't wait to get some pics framed! And I love the canvas look… maybe an early Christmas present?

  4. I love reading your blog! I've never posted before, usually I'm just a stalker, but I want to ask where you got the blue curtains for your back door? Did you sew them like you sewed the orange ones? They are shown in the picture with the three gorgeous, canvas pictures you took. Thanks!
