I can’t complain too much about Dave being away because 1) I get so much done when he’s gone and there’s something exhilarating about having my kids and my schedule all to myself for a little while (and then it gets long), and 2) a couple of those days he was gone I was with him…
…at Lake Powell…one of our favorite places in the whole wide world.

With some of our very favorite people in the whole wide world:
We have so much history with these guys which makes for some great, invigorating conversations and some good reminiscing…

We water-skied and wake-boarded to our hearts’ content:

We had long discussions on the boat:
And even longer ones in the boat (the big one):
And a few more good ones in the hot tub:I think we covered and dissected every topic imaginable.

The girls took a good, long ride on the jet-skis:

A little known fact about Dave and I is that we are surfers.
ha ha.

But really, we tried hard, and had so much fun doing it.

Dave can even smile while he’s surfing so he’s extra talented:)
Let’s stop here and breathe in that scenery behind him above.

Honestly, could there be a more gorgeous, surreal backdrop?? It takes my breath away.

Everyone got the hang of it pretty well:
The guys can really drop that rope most of the time but I wasn’t so hot at capturing that part…

The boys made some delicious food for us girls:

We found an awesome little alcove for cliff-jumping.
Dave and I took a ‘romantic’ jump together:
It doesn’t look all that high but it was scary!

I took this next picture right after Dave proclaimed that that particular day was “so perfect he could cry.”Now that, coming from my husband, means the day was pretty darn perfect. Or maybe my passion is just rubbing off on him a little too much.

But he was right, it was perfect.

We woke up early the morning we had to leave which left my friend and I with an opportunity to take a little kayak ride as the sun rose above the mountains around us.
It was so beautiful.
Which made it even tougher to say goodbye.

Luckily our sweet children were waiting with open arms for us at home along with these amazing babysitters who still agreed to come even though they have two kids of their own now.
Our kids adore them and their adorable babies. Maybe that’s the way I can get the sweet influence of babies around our house more often 🙂

It’s always good to be home, but I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have this guy all to myself when I can.

  1. Oh, you make me want to go there right this second. My husband desperately wants a family Lake Powell vacation . . .but we have 3, three and under. Maybe in about 10 years.

  2. This is such a cute post. You don't post about your husband very often but when you do, it is sooo apparent how much you love each other! Those pictures are really cute 🙂 I've never been to lake powell but it looks fun!!!

  3. Oh wow, that looks fantastic! I'm green with jealousy because all the places you show on this blog look so darn gorgeous. Living vicariously through you here in the concrete jungle

  4. Um, I think I know two of those people in your group!! How crazy is that? Is that the Barneys I see there? I used to babysit their daughter WAAYY back when she was just 1 or 2 years old! "Sis. Barney" was also my YW leader when I lived in AZ. I don't know how you know them or met them, but boy, what a small world!!

  5. I would have to agree one of our favorite vacations!! We love that place! Loved all the pictures. It makes me look forward to spending a week there with my hubby next Summer, after I have TWINS. I love that you all went as friends and just adults . . . We just bought our dream wakeboard boat and LOVE LOVE to wakeboard – you look so good on a wake surf – I still cannot get the hang of that! I am so going to take a kayak next Summer, one of my favorite things to do! Question – I hope you don't mind me asking but I am ALWAYS looking for cute modest swim suits. Where did you get yours?

  6. Wow, how fun and that jump indeed looks very high 🙂 I really admire how the wives dressed so modestly around the water. As a young woman I will try to always be so aware and thoughtful too. Great post!

  7. I had various thoughts as I read this blog post:

    1. That first pic of you both is adorable. Frame that!
    2. Wow! Beautiful Scenery!
    3. What a dream vacation and nice that you could get away with dear friends!
    4. Happiness in family life includes wholesome recreational activities. You are cultivating a well-balanced life.
    5. This is the social elite! I hope you all solved the world's problems in the hot tub that night.
    6. This is the precise reason why the prophets have told us not to waste too much time surfing on the internet… we end up living "virtual realities" and then complain about our own reality and dream about things that are so far gone… like riding on large boats the size of mansions, jet skis, kayaks, "small boats" the size of small houses, with an amazing babysitter and a week away with the hubby at my leisure and so on…
I think I'll try hard to create my own dreams, purchase a small kayak for the bath tub and in the meantime, grow some forget-me-nots.

    8. What is that new book your parents just came out with again?
    🙂

  8. How fun! You two are such a beautiful couple. I've always heard how beautiful Lake Powell is…your pictures sure prove that. Spending time together as husband and wife is so important for a marriage–my hubby and I try to do this as often as we can. It gets a bit more difficult when kiddos come along, but all the more important to have that special time together! 🙂

I loved this post. Thanks for sharing all of your fun pictures.

    Hugs,

  9. Looks like a fabulous time away! I love Lake Powell! I had to laugh when I read water-skied and wake boarded quickly and it came out in my head as water boarded and I had to take a second look at what you guys were really doing there!:) Thanks for your wonderful blog. It is my favorite one to visit!!

  10. I have never been so envious of you! You just had my dream vacation. We used to have a house boat, and a boat and lake powell was a for sure family get away every summer. Actually my family and my husbands family together owned the house boat so we spent years spending family vacations together before we were ever anything even remotely a couple! Our romance actually began the summer after he got home from his mission and we spent 2 glorious weeks in that amazing place. I'm not quite sure why i am sharing all of this with you, I just really miss that time in our lives and i long for them again!
