We did our traditional family “heart attack” for Family Home Evening this week.

Each year near Valentine’s Day we like to cover our kitchen and family room with love by writing down all the things we love about each other.
We glue yarn around some of the hearts to make them a little fancier. (Max was sick on the couch for this and Dave was taking the pictures but they were there basking in the love too 🙂

Then we read them all aloud.

Each year my favorite part is to watch the kids’ expressions when we read what everyone loves about them.

Then we slap them up all over the place.

It’s kinda fun to be surrounded by love all month 🙂

These are some of my very favorites that I couldn’t pass up a chance to post on their own:
(that says “sis” at the end….heart melter even though she was kinda trying to be funny)

  1. This is so cute. we have "heart attacks" where we plaster a friend or family members door with hearts and candy to show them we care for them! I might have to try this one this year too. It would be so wonderful to walk around the house and be reminded of all the love in a family!

  2. We started this a few years ago because of you. We have so much fun, and as always a joy to see yours! I like the idea of doing this on a friend's door too (comment above)

  3. We've had so many stressors in our life lately. I think this would be an awesome way for our family to show love to each other. We are all in desperate need of huge hugs and lots of love now. To be able to lean on each other and bring to light the positive may be exactly what our hearts need. Thanks for the idea :o)

  4. I just wanted to say that I love reading your blog. Although I am only 23 years old with no children, I am inspired to be a better mother even though I'm not a mother! Your family life is something I strive for and one day hope to implement myself! Thank you for continually inspiring younger women like me.

  5. For the past 3 years my kitchen has been covered in love – because of you! Thank you so much for the idea. We may have to embellish those hearts this year too! Another great idea Shawni!

  6. This is *such* a fun idea! I love it! I think we'll have to start a new tradition (we don't have very many yet so this will be a lot of fun). Thanks for sharing!

  7. Great idea! Question?? Do you share/sell your canvas prints (the 3 that you have hanging on your family room wall – leaves/lantern/sky?) I have admired them for a long time and am currently redecorating and thinking how perfect the colors would be with what I'm doing. You can e-mail me at carinlarson@hotmail.com

    THANK YOU!!!

  9. We started ours on the first and try to do them everyday for the whole month. I love doing this with the kids and makes them feel special.

Your kids write the sweetest things.
