Meet our new birthday board we’re putting in front of all the girls’ houses this year on their birthdays:Lucky me, I was the first birthday of the year and was surprised find it already done accompanied by a major “heart attack” late at night the night before my birthday.

The kids thought it was the greatest thing on the planet.

Somehow it makes getting older feel better when people are so kind to you.

It didn’t hurt to wake up to all kinds of sweet comments from this post and to keep having more streaming into my inbox all day long (thanks again for that). My family forgot to mention all the bad stuff that works to cancel out all those nice things they said, but I’ll take it. 🙂

Every year on my birthday I renew my vow that I will be more thoughtful on birthdays because really, people are just nice.

Dave brought me these:

My most dear friend’s sister who lives near me delivered these to me from her:
The kids made me artistic stuff like this:(accompanied by some back rubs and hair-do coupons)

Dave took me on one of my favorite hikes.

We went out for my favorite Thai food for dinner.

And made a cake from various treats people brought over.
It was a good, good day.

Maybe forty won’t be so bad after all. 🙂

  1. Happy 40th, welcome to the club! Looks like you had a wonderful day. Love all the pics. Your YW are so sweet.
Where is that hike you went on, I will have to take it the next time I am visiting my fam in AZ.

  2. I never sent birthday wishes, but I intended to. I just want you to know how much I enjoy reading your blog. I find it uplifting and inspiring. I limit myself to reading two blogs ( I find that I can waste too much time otherwise) and yours is one that I read daily. Thanks for sharing your time and experience. Glad you had a great birthday.

  3. Love the "cake", and the new birthday sign from the YW (good idea!) and also the fact that your brother does so much with your family. Happy Birthday!!!

  4. I live in Utah and copied your birthday sign! I love it. Since its cold out in the winter the letters are peeling off, did you seal the vinyl with anything to make them stick better? I tried a clear spray adhesive and then mod podge. Still peeling in the cold!
