A while ago Dave gave me a subscription to this magazine.

Because he’s sweet like that and he knows how I love to travel. I think maybe he thought just looking at pictures would cool down my drooling to see those places in person.

But I have to admit it might have made it worse.

Now I can picture even more where I want to go. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be here?

…and stay in a place like this?
In my dreams, this place is where I wanted to go for my fortieth birthday:
Who wouldn’t, right?

(Instead I was snuggling five kids drinking in the goodness of being with my family which really is just as good in my book…maybe I’ll aim for Greece when I turn fifty…)

And doesn’t it look dreamy to bike around Italy with this cute mustached guy below?

I’ve always wanted to go to Bali. But “beyond Bali”?? I want to go there too:)

Yeah, some day.

But for now I’ll remember “life is long,” and how darn lucky I am to be right here, right now.

Power of Moms is doing a photo contest for the cover of a book about motherhood I got to contribute to. For more information the link is here.

This family could use any extra prayers at this time.

My parents are finally selling the house that we grew up in that’s chock-full of family memories and has a gorgeous view of Salt Lake City. We are all pretty sad about that little fact so rather than listing it they have decided to just do a little website about it to find some great family who can make it theirs and make their own tangible family memories there. The link is here if you know anyone who may be interested.

And last but not least, my sweet friend is doing a “Mother’s Book of Secrets” give-away on her blog. Click here for that.

Happy Monday!

  1. Funny thing! I checked out the link to your parent's home and thought, hmmmm that sounds like the same area as my granparents. Turns out, it is just the next street over!! I love, love love visiting them up there – it is so beautiful!! Hope they find a wonderful family to move in. My grandparents are David and Barbara Hatch. (my grandpa passed away about a year and a half ago)

  2. Ohhh, I hear ya about the travel bug. I've gotten it bad lately. I booked an awesome deal for my husband and I to go to the Bahamas next month (our 10-year anniversary is in May, I just turned 30 and I'm due with our 4th child this summer- all very good excuses for a vacation in my book) and I've been trawling the internet looking for more good deals ever since. I know it will be awhile before we get away again, but I like to know what's out there and a life of dreams will always take you farther than you'd go without them. 🙂

One of my favorite pastimes now is to go to Kayak.com and click on the "more" link and then "Explore". You just enter your home airport and it will give you a map of the best deals all around the world. We're RCI members so I compare those prices with deals on lodging and I pretend-plan all kinds of vacations. Last week I got our entire family down to Orlando, Florida for a week for $1200. Not bad! 😉

  3. Um, not the smartest move on Dave's part. That would only make it worse for me, too! My husband and I went to Greece a few years ago and stayed on Santorini for two nights. Hands down the most beautiful place I have ever been. Sunsets there are amazing!!

  4. I'm in my 40's and have never flown on a plane. Ever. Anywhere in my life. I hope to…. someday. Maybe I am lucky to not have the "bug" right now, because I really have not been anywhere. lol

Those places DO look amazing, though. I seriously wonder what the rest of the world looks like. I see the proof out there.. that it does exist…..so in the meantime I guess I will enjoy seeing the world through others' eyes. ; )

  5. So when you do get around to goin to Greece let me know! I loved loved loved Santorini and I am dying to get back. Especially because I didn't buy a few trinkets that I still kick myself for. Miss ya!

  6. Shawns, will Dave let you go to one of those places with me for my 40th? Tell him it will save me some money in heavy medications. Just an idea…can't wait to see you in a few weeks! xo Mo

  7. You brought back many memories of days gone by as I looked at the post of your parents home. I had a dear friend that lived above Hogle Zoo and we lived on the street just below it. Utah used to be home but Missouri has captured our hearts! I hope you get to go to Greece for your 50th B-day! Thanks for you wonderful blog!!

  8. In the last 18 months my family of four with kids now ages 6 and 8 we have visited Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy (many times), Croatia, Slovenia, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Spain. The next few months hold: Italy (two more times), the Greek islands, Turkey, Bavaria… It doesn't hurt that we live in Germany – for only three years so we're packing in as much as possible. Family travel agent is one of my most time-consuming tasks and we love the travel! I am so grateful for this experience and I'd like to encourage anyone who's hesitating to JUST DO IT! Adventure is only a plane ride away!!!
