Did you notice this cute new banner we put up for our last couple birthdays?
A very nice blog reader sent me that beauty as a gift.

And I have the lucky opportunity to give one of them away.

I love the colors and the size and how it “parties up” our kitchen just right.  (She also has a bunch of other cute stuff you can check out here.)

To enter to win a birthday banner for yourself, leave a comment.

I’ll announce the winner on Thursday morning.

  1. I would love to win that banner! I love your blog and your sweet family. You and your husband's parenting skills are inspiring. You've got great kids. I wish we were your neighbors. 🙂

  2. Ohhh, I love the banner! As a photographer just starting her own business (on a strict budget), this would make a GREAT prop!! Thanks for the give-away and good luck everyone!!! 🙂

  3. I love that cute banner! and your precious family 🙂 We are moving into our new house in 2 weeks and I'm so excited to finally be able to host friends and family. The tiny apartment we've been living in just makes it hard to host. I know that banner would be a nice addition to the new place. 🙂

  4. I would love to win. The banner is perfect because it is gender neutral. Great colors and screams FUN! I look forward to reading your house blog everyday while drinking my coffee. Thank you so much for so much great advice.

P.S. my kids thank you for the chore jar……my favorite by far!

  5. I love that banner. my son is turning 1 in 2 months and it would be perfect! we are just doing primary colors for his party!!!!!! (ps i am borrowing your idea for birthday picture of mom dad and birthday child, i love it)

  6. First thing first…I LOVE the banner. It's the perfect touch to any birthday party! Secondly, I just started reading your blog, it's wonderful.

  8. I would love one of these if it isn't too late. I have had lots of health issues lately and reading your blog has sure helped and kept me entertained when I've had to rest. You are an amazing woman and when I get feeling better I am going to dominate my life and have so much fun in the process……thanks for being so inspiring!!!

  9. Our little girl turns one in 2 weeks — I am looking to build birthday traditions in our home. Love your birthday traditions and love this banner!

  10. I noticed it when I first saw the pictures and just assumed you made it! 🙂 I was going to try to make one myself but I never seem to have the time…

I'd love to be the lucky winner! Here's to crossing my fingers!

  11. this very Saturday I'm throwing a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend and I'll make the banner myself… the cover is a 14th of July party (he's French) so the banner will be double-sided and we'll change it at the time of the cake! …. sorry it was this long! =)

  12. I would love to surprise my husband with this banner. We are newlyweds of less than 3 months and birthdays were never really celebrated in his home growing up. This would be a perfect small addition to the kitchen to start breaking him in for bigger celebrations in the future. A banner this year, perhaps I'll go for adding a cake next year. He's not used to attention on his special day and absolutely refuses evens cake. I would love to have this for him. Thanks for the opportunity!

  13. What a cute Etsy shop she has! I love the green-lettered alphabet poster (that ends with a tiny "next time won't you sing with me"). Absolutely adorable.

  14. That is just too cute! I am pregnant with my first child right now, would love to have that hanging up when we come home from the hospital!

  15. I love the banner and had been meaning to post a comment to know how you made it or where you got it. I would love a post on your family birthday traditions….I love how they seem to get all these little gifts!!

  16. I am a new follower to your blog and have enjoyed reading about your family. Infact, I have recently ordered two books that you recommended including one from your parents.

I would love to have the banner as a tradition item in my home. With 3 girls it would be a nice addition.

  17. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this banner! What a cute and very fun tradition to start! I just love your blog and all of your wonderful ideas and inspiration that you share!!!

    Thanks!
    Ginger

  18. Oh, we have a newborn and this banner would be such fun to use as our little one grows. What a delight! And, Shawnie, thanks for your blog … I've loved how it has me thinking about how we want to raise out family. Warmly, Kristin

  19. Would love it!! Thank you is much! I actually have the pottery barn banner that I have noticed in one of your older posts – i will pass it along to a friend if I'm the lucky one! 🙂

  20. I have made several pendant banners and they are SO fun for any parties. I have to admit my birthday banner needs a make-over! I think this one is just the colorful fun banner I've been looking for! On another note: I've been a newer blog reader for just a short while (Once I purchased your parents book the Entitlement Trap and 5 Spiritual Solutions for Everyday Parenting- I heard about you) and I have to admit your "style" of parenting, mothering and loving is very contagious. I have come to recognize simple beauties in life (and mothering) more frequently now. Thank you for your inspiration and wisdom. My home is being blessed by your example.

  21. That is such a cute banner.

I was excited to see you were at Duke recently. I live near Raleigh. Duke is a great hospital. I recently had back surgery there and just love the place. Wish I could have met you while you were here.

  22. I just love that banner – the colors/patterns are super fun but neutral enough to be used for my son or daughters! Sure beats the dollar store, paper variety, that I put up every year. No mother of the year award for me. 😉

  23. I would love to win one! I've been wanting one for a while and thought I would make one, but I'm not very creative in this area. By the way, I found your blog a couple years ago and loved it, but then couldn't find you again until you guest posted on Taza and Husband. So glad to find you again! Now that I'm a parent, I'm loving all of the book suggestions and parenting ideas. Thank you for sharing!

  24. Love the banner. I love that it is equally appropriate for every age! Our "Star Wars" banner is close to following the "Thomas the Tank Engine" banner into obscurity…

  25. My sons birthday is in less than 2 weeks and this would be a great addition to our house when he wakes up in the morning 🙂 Love your blog!

  26. Noticed that banner and love it! Would love one for my kiddos. We could hang it for the whole month of April because both my kids birthdays (and mine) are all in April! : )

  27. I have been following your blog for almost a year, and you have touched my heart so many times and inspired me to be a better mother and wife in so many ways. I am so grateful for the way you share yourself with us. I have been wanting to make a birthday banner for some time now, and feel intimidated about it for some reason. This birthday banner is exactly what I had in mind!! It's beautiful! Thanks for the opportunity to possibly win one 🙂

  28. Oh man – I would love that! My kiddos are still little and we are working on family traditions – the banner would be perfect. Thank you!

  29. I had a banner like that – and then it went into storage and was eaten by mice! This one is so, so cute! I love it! (And I promise I would never put it into storage in the middle of nowhere, where apparently loads of mice live) 🙂

  30. Shawni, I've been reading your blog for so long that I can't remember how I even stumbled upon it! Thank you for being so personal and so honest and for sharing such raw emotion. I think it is so important for moms to know that there is always someone somewhere going through the same things that they are going through – AND surviving! A dear friend once told me that motherhood was full of seasons and those seasons constantly change so look for the things that you love about the season you are in and hold on to it tightly, don't dwell on what you don't like, because before you know it, that particular season will be gone and you will be wishing it back again. Blessings to you and your precious family.

  31. I am the party queen. With my four boys we have had a lot of parties and I always keep my banners so that I can hang them up again and again. Would love to have one like this.

  32. Ahh I love that banner (and the ones you had gotten from PB Kids, I believe, years ago)! I bought a cheap paper one and have used it for my son's and husband's birthdays in the last two months. One of my new favorite traditions!

  33. LOVE it! You're blog is so inspiring. My husband and I don't have any kids yet but reading your blog makes me so anxious to start a family!

  34. That banner would be adorable to hang up as our baby girl grows up! She just celebrated her first birthday in May! It's never too late to start a tradition 🙂

  35. Such a beautiful banner! In our family we have a Birthday table cloth that has made it through about 20 years worth of birthdays. It would be nice to start a new tradition!

  36. That banner is so bright and cheery. We have a lot of of winter birthdays, so it would sure add some brightness to those days. Hope I win!

  37. Nice banner and love your blog! Never commented before but your blog always puts a positive perspective in my heart. Thanks for that!

    Susanna

  41. I love helping others to feel special on their birthday! I'm one of those who, no matter the age, purchases a huge cake and decorates like crazy to celebrate. This banner would be awesome to include!

  42. Super cute and much easier then making a new one every year the night before the birthday beacause the one you made out of scrapbook paper the year before ripped while being stored…..I speak from experience 😉

  43. The banner is darling! It's timeless and gender neutral. {As moms we have to think of those things, you know?} I love making birthdays a big deal just by doing the "little things" — this banner would be perfect.

  44. The banner we used for years just plain wore out and the new one isn't holding up at all. This one is perfect! Thanks for the chance to win. 🙂

  45. Gosh darn it! Yesterday was my birthday and I would have loved to have seen that banner over our dining room. I would love one to celebrate my lovely family's birthdays. 🙂

  50. Love it – I've been wanting to find something like this for a while now. And I LOVE Sparkle Power. I ordered a banner from her a couple years ago for my son's nursery and we still get compliments on how fun and colorful it is.

  57. Wow! There are a lot of comments posted! I decided to leave my first comment…I've read your blog for a while now. Love. It. You seem like a very genuine person and so down to earth (thank you for being honest). I read your sisters blog-Dripping With Passion. Love it. Photography is a hobby and I love looking at your beautiful photos and how you capture the candid moments of your family. I am also a teacher. I pray for Lucy and her eyes…she melts my heart. 60. LOVE it and your blog!

Our Birthday tradition is "Mr. Hula-the-Birthday-Fish"… a weird looking plastic fish the size of a ball cap that graces our birthday table… Strange, I know… but makes us smile! 🙂

  61. Would love to have such a cute banner to help us celebrate birthdays around here. We're growing quickly—over 30 now and more of us on the way. Would love to include it when we party.

  65. That banner makes me smile!I love your blog. You're such an inspiration. During YW on Sunday, we talked about people who inspire our lives for good and trying to be that example for others. I thought of you and your family.

  66. Such a fun potential heirloom! I've been looking for just the right, fun design to buy for cousins as a family gift–as our cousins multiply I can't keep up with cards so hoping some year I can send these as a family gift with balloons and a special something for each cousin. Love your blog, so inspiring as I navigate our family of 4 girls and 1 boy through all the adventures life brings. Thank you so much!

You're an amazing roll model! I look forward to reading more.
