A lady contacted me a while back about her plans to take her daughter with her to work at Rising Star (an amazing organization we visited in India last summer…more about that back here). Together, this mother and her daughter have figured out a way to raise money for the school and other needs there and I have to share because I think it’s so cool. They wanted not to only raise money, but to get a message out there with lasting impact. “We came up with the motto ‘make change’ and designed a bracelet with those words on it, along with a miniature penny which signifies that small amounts of ‘change’, be it monetary or otherwise, can add up to make a major difference.” Wearing these awesome bracelets remind you to “make change” in your own way, and all the funds go toward Rising star.  Here’s the link to see the bracelets:  http://makechangetoday.org/ Of course, I had to snatch some up for us: 2013-01-06 winter 675982013-01-06 winter 675992013-01-07 winter 67614 Here’s the video Faith (the daughter) and her mom made that made me tear up. There are so many ways to “make change” in this world of ours.  Sometimes just something as small as a smile or a wave to someone who needs a little encouragement can make so much more of a difference than we can imagine. Thanks, Faith, for your example of making your own kind of change! Go buy bracelets here:  http://makechangetoday.org/ and make some change of your own 🙂

  1. Sorry this has nothing to do with this post.
I have searched your blog to try to find this answer ….so I am sorry if it is there and I couldn't find it!

Where did you get the GREEN CHAIRS to your kitchen table????

  2. That video was very touching! I didn't really think much of the bracelets, but once I watched the video, I WANTED one of those bracelets. What an inspirational young lady.

  3. Thanks for sharing. I had kind of decided that "change" would be my one word focus for the year, but "make change" puts that responsibility squarely on my own shoulders. Just ordered a dozen of those bracelets for my girls,
d-i-l's and oldest granddaughters. Hoping our family can make lots of changes this year. Thanks again. I read your blog daily, and I'm almost old enough to be your mom! You inspire me to do more.

  4. Love this! What an amazing little girl. The video brought tears to my eyes and a big lump to my throat. Just ordered my bracelet and I feel like heading out into the world ready to help everyone I see! Thanks for sharing with us 🙂

  5. Dear Shawni! Honestly, you made me become a better Christian. Although I am Catholic I usually attend the family nights of the local LDS church with my mormon friend.
Since I read your blog I wish to be a mom like you one day and have such a beautiful family. From the deepest of my heart I wish you and your family all the best! God bless you all!

  6. I have only been following your blog for a little over a month, but have done a lot of back-reading to cover old posts because I'm just so inspired by the various things you post. It helps me hold on to the lofty ambitions I have for my family and to receive new ideas.

I have a question that perhaps you'll someday answer in your Q&A Friday post. I was wondering what your family standards are for modesty and how that is enforced in your house. I notice that Elle goes around in short shorts a lot but that the younger girls never seem to show that much leg. I'd love to hear your insights.

  7. Meant to tell you this yesterday, but life got busy, go figure! 🙂 I bought SEVEN of these wonderful bracelets and plan on tucking them in Graduation cards this spring for several of our daughter's friends. I think they'll serve as a marvelous reminder to also "be the change" that these girls want to see in the world. Thanks sooo very much for sharing this opportunity to help! Have a blessed day!

  8. Bought six bracelets and shared our story of how we make change.
Every year on Christmas Eve we make hundreds of sack lunches and take them downtown Denver to the homeless and hand them out. Unfortunately we just recently found out what we are doing is illegal. ???Go figure. We decided we would keep doing it and play dumb if we ever get caught.

  9. Thank you for sharing! I shared it on facebook and an aunt bought enough for her large ward's YW group plus her daughters. Glad to help spread the word! Thank you for all the inspiration you are and share with us.
