We did our traditional Valentine’s Day “heart attack” this week for the first time in our new house.

I love being surrounded by love notes each year in February.

 Makes my heart so happy.

Even if sometimes they are hanging there amidst some swirls of every-day squabbles.

Let’s pretend that I was on-the-ball enough to make up a great little collage of all these hearts instead of having them strung out like a long rope through this post.  And who knows why blogger makes them look all pixelated.

Seriously these look perfect until I put them on this blog…maybe it’s just my computer.

But you get the idea.

Hmmm…looks like I’m missing a good representation for Dave, dang it.  I guess I took these a little too randomly.

Lu wasn’t about to stick to just writing what she loves about the family, because she loves art too, you know.

…and she loves activity days too.
Just so you know… 🙂

 Oh man I love February!

  1. Shawni, you should right a book with all these ideas and traditions! I'm trying to restore some family spirit around here and even being just adults, these funny little ideas are SO helpful. I've noticed so many changes in our relationship as a family….THANK YOU!
    Love,
    Célia (Portugal)

  2. Your kitchen looks so good with that pop of color. The all white is really commercial/industrial looking – not warm and inviting. I think we have way different tastes in decorating!

    1. That's nice madam queen. Thank you so much for sharing your opinion. We are all enlightened now knowing you don't like white kitchens.

Seriously, give it up. It's ok to have a differing opinion but why do you always feel the need to share it? This whole world is filled with people that think differently from each other and if everyone acted like you…it would be a sad existence.

    2. Cam-Rach – I am criticized if I voice a differing opinion in a mean way, so I express myself in a nicer manner. And still I am told to "give it up". Why? If everyone "acted like me?" Voicing a different opinion should be welcomed.

Why don't all you fan-girls who think you are sticking up for Shawni "give it up"? Do you think she is so sensitive that if someone she doesn't know (me) says they don't agree with her decorating style that she will be devastated? I think she's stronger than that.

I am seeing a trend on this blog's comments of anyone disagreeing, no matter how politely – being chastized, not by Shawni, but by the groupies. Why?

Is your world so cookie-cutter that you can't even bear to hear an opinion that is different from your own? Does it scare you? Does it make you wish you could think your own thoughts instead of parroting someone else's?

Sorry, I just don't get it.

    3. Can we see pictures of your kitchen? How about posting a little bit about yourself…..show us a picture! It is very easy to hide behind a computer and make nasty comments, how about you open yourself up to commentary, Madam Queen may just be dethroned at that point!

    4. My comment above is not nasty. I prefer a warmer, less modernistic kitchen. If I ever decide to start a blog, I will post pictures of my kitchen and invite comments. Maybe I will. And if anyone says they don't agree with my decorating style, I won't accuse them of being nasty.

The world would be really boring if everyone had the same taste, style, opinions, etc. Why can't the differences be celebrated rather than accusing the person of being nasty.

Shawni asked me to make my comments less snide and rude. That is what I am trying to do – and still you guys are taking everything in a negative way. I think your comment is pretty rude, Megan.
