It makes me happy when my kids are as enthralled with the beauty of the earth as I am.

But then again, I guess it’s not hard to be overcome with how knock-dead gorgeous the earth is up at Bloomington Lake (up in the mountains by where we stay at Bear Lake).

Oh boy, right?

At first Lu was a little hesitant about coming on this hike with us.  But once she got there she could hardly stop admiring and picking the gorgeousness up there.

She was especially excited when my sis-in-law started making flower crowns.
We missed the trek to Bloomington Lake last year, but most years we make a little pilgrimage up the old dirt road, past a herds of cows and through 528 potholes to this pristine place where we hike up a beautiful trail:

…and pick a million bouquets on the way:

…to jump into the ice-cold glacier lake from the rope swing.

…over and over again.

I was wimpy this year…it was the very first time I’ve been there and not done the jump.  Mostly it was because I just decided not to give in to peer pressure this time 🙂

Lu surprised me by begging with her puppy dog eyes (and a lot of whining) to jump in.  The wind had come up by then and we didn’t bring her swimsuit so I cajoled her to believe that next year we would remember her swimsuit (I was too nervous about whether she had enough upper body strength to hold on because there are lots of rocks down there which is pretty scary if you don’t jump at the right time).  But go Lucy for being so daring!

I’m not sure why I don’t have more pictures of the other sisters and cousins, dang it!  Most of them were there.
I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

…except to add that I loved that Grace was just as into photographing the beauty as I was.

  1. Gorgeous photos! Could you by chance share where your older girls get their clothes and swimsuits? They're always dressed so well and age appropriately. Cute one piece suits can be a challenge to come by so I'd love to hear where you've all Found those cute ones. Thanks a mil! Xx

  2. Beautiful Bloomington Lake! I'm so grateful I got to visit that gorgeous place with Eli and BOC all those years ago. And oh, man. I am such a sap. Every time I read your blog these days, I find myself tearing up! I just know that in a blink, my 6, 3 and 1 year olds will be as big as your kids, getting ready to go off on missions and to college and it just about kills me! I have followed your blog for a long time and I am grateful to you for sharing your family with me and the world. I've learned a lot about parenting mindfully from you and your wise parents and siblings- I hope I get to meet you one day, because you feel like a friend! Best wishes in this heart-stretching phase of life.
