Oh boy.  So much to think about right now.  Most important is that MAX IS ON A FLIGHT TO TAIWAN as I type, and WE GOT TO TALK TO HIM THIS MORNING!  (Missionaries only get to call home on Mother’s Day and Christmas, AND on their way to the actual mission they are heading to.)

Ok, did those caps convey at least a little bit of my emotion and excitement at that little fact?  Not sure how to express it, but I’m so happy for him!  The connection was horrible (he was at a payphone with a calling card and all the announcements made it so he could hardly hear us, but oh boy, it was so great).  He has had the best experience at the MTC and it was so fun to hear things from his own voice. Now he’s heading out to the real deal and is so anxiously excited and nervous all at the same time.  We feel the same emotions (although on a totally different level).
I know many people who read this blog love Max so if you feel so inclined, send some prayers for him and all those missionaries (21 in their group) as they make the adjustment to Taiwan.  It’s going to take a while to get their bearings straight with jet lag and much much longer to figure out what language they were learning in the MTC because most won’t understand much for a while.  But they will learn and grow in so many amazing ways and oh how I just already love those wonderful people in Taiwan who will take Max into their homes and teach him so much as he tries to teach them.

And oh how I love all these kids who have surrounded him with goodness in the MTC.

…and who will still be with him to support each other and buoy each other up on this amazing journey that lies ahead.
On missions missionaries feel the most incredible highs and lows, how I hope he can remember to always turn to God in the lows that will surely come…AND the highs.
Lots of prayers are being sent out for that boy of ours (and all the others) from our home here in the desert today (and every day since he left).  And those prayers are accompanied by a whole slew of extra big smiles today as he sets off on the adventure of a lifetime.

  1. Our son is in Max's group heading to Taiwan tonight! We are praying for them and a safe journey! We're so excited for them! Thanks for raising a son that is such a great example!

  2. My cousins son is elder neuhause. Many prayers for these sweet missionaries and those all over the world. Also, prayers for their families! As we get closer to having a son leave I realize how hard this is for everyone! (my 4 year old cried about missing Michael this morning and he is just at high school!)
