Warning: this post has a lot of details that really no one but Elle and me would be interested in.  But I want to remember how it felt to help her get ready for one last high school dance and how we were both flying by the seats of our pants (Dave and I were supposed to be out of town before state tennis was scheduled and this last dance came up and decided we couldn’t miss either).  So I’m just sneaking it in late at night so I can have it documented.
From the state tennis tournament (last post), it was a race to get Elle ready for prom (her prom was back here, this one was for a neighboring high school with a guy she is friends with over there…how she got asked was back here…and I have no idea how she answered, that is an awesome run-on sentence:).
She has been so busy with photoshoots (I need to post some of my favorites some time, I know I’m biased but she is good) and school and college course selections and senior stuff that neither of us stopped to try to figure out extra prom details very well.
She had borrowed a dress from a friend but didn’t have a slip to wear under it and had no idea what shoes she was wearing.  We called around to people on our way home to try to figure out those details and the boutonniΓ¨re and  as well.
Luckily we did have trusty Brimley her cousin, hair mastermind, all set to come fix her hair up (she and her husband were going to babysit for us while we were gone so they were still “on call”).

We pulled up in the driveway from tennis to find Brim and her husband already there waiting for us.
We had tracked down a slip (from Brimley’s sister) en route home (tennis was an hour away so we got a lot of work done) so she was going to bring it when she came but it didn’t quite make it to the car.  So I left the hair party crew to run grab it leaving them with instructions that they should take pictures.
So they did.

I love that one Grace took.  Isn’t that hairspray cool?

Love that crew.

I got back just in the nick of time for her to change and Dave got back with the boutonniere and she was good to go.

Such a nice date.

These are the pictures someone took after they left.

In all the commotion of everything else going on Elle’s cute date had called a couple days earlier to ask me a question.

He wanted to know if it was ok if his friend’s grandpa flew them to prom.

As you can guess, I was stopped in my tracks.

Can they FLY to prom?!  What?

He explained that the dance was going to be in an airplane hangar and since the guy he was doubling with had a pilot’s license they thought it would be extra awesome to fly from one small airport to another.

I am not a big fan of small airplanes.  But after promising me how much flight time this grandpa had under his belt and that he would be safer than safe, I told him it would be ok.

And then I got SO excited for that girl of mine.  He told me not to say anything, that it was going to be a surprise.

I just wish I could have been a fly on the wall when these girls found out the plan.

Oh boy.  They were SO excited.

Someone (I think one of the moms) gave them sparkling cider and took pictures before they took off.

And then they were off.
I think her face kinda says it all πŸ™‚

Now that’s one for the books.
