I am always excited for General Conference.

That’s when in lieu of regular church, the leaders of our church gather in Salt Lake City and their words are broadcast all over the world for two days. It happens semi-annually: the first weekend of October and the first weekend of April (starting TOMORROW). And every time I am left with such hope and goodness. So much inspiration to carry through to my regular days.

Now that we are at a loss for “regular days,” I am craving conference more than ever. And due to what the world is like right now, it will be different than ever. Rather than being broadcast with throngs of people gathered together, the talks will be broadcast from a small auditorium and the music will all be pre-recorded.

In his closing remarks during the last conference President Nelson said that this next coming conference will be different from every before, and he sure was correct.

I think it is safe to say everyone who shares my faith is looking forward with great anticipation to hearing the words from our prophet and leaders wash over us. We want something buoy us up, to give us hope, to make a difference.

But I keep getting these nudges that that buoying comes so much from within. We are in charge of preparing our hearts to truly “hear” what they have to say. And to hear what the spirit is whispering to each of us, individually. Because it is up to us to use those quiet whisperings to help us connect more beautifully to Heaven. To truly “hear” what God is trying to tell us. To guide us and direct us through this life.

I love this painting by Brian Kershisnik, sorry it’s a little blurry this big I wanted to share.

I love love love that our prophet’s main goal is to help us “hear Him.” To help us find that connection with God, that same connection Joseph Smith sought for all those years ago. I have been working to delve deeper into the restoration to prepare my heart, and I have learned so much. So much about what it means to really restore. It’s been a pretty beautiful process I’ll have to come write out here some time when my mind quiets down.

But for here, today, I wanted to invite anyone who is interested to JOIN US this weekend. Anyone can tune into conference and see what it’s all about. Come see if you feel different when you hear the words of hope and beauty that are sure to spill out. And be sure to prepare your heart and open yourself to “hear Him” any way you can.

Because I truly believe more than I ever have that He is there. And He wants nothing more for us to know that. And to feel that. And to help us find our way. Especially when life seems dim and hope is flickering.

  2. Love the Drive By Wedding idea!
I want to share this beautiful post, I don’t know the original author but HE is here with us, at all times.

Me: Okay, God, here’s the thing. I’m scared. I’m trying not to be, but I am.

God: I know. Want to talk about it?

Me: Do we need to? I mean, you already know.

God: Let’s talk about it anyway … We’ve done this before.

Me: I know, I just feel like I should be bigger or stronger or something by now.

God: *waiting patiently, unhurried, undistracted, never annoyed*

Me: Okay. So, I’m afraid I’ll do everything I can to protect my family and it won’t be enough. I’m afraid of someone I love dying. I’m afraid the world won’t go back to what it was before. I’m afraid my life is always going to feel a little bit unsettled.

    God: Anything else?

    Me: EVERYTHING ELSE.

God: Remember how your daughter woke up the other night and came running down the hall to your bedroom?

    Me: Yes.

God: You were still awake, so when you heard her running, you started calling out to her before she even got to you … remember? Do you remember what you called out to her?

    Me: I said, “You’re okay! You’re okay! You’re okay! I’m here.”

God: Why did you call to her? Why didn’t you just wait for her to get to your room?

Me: Because I wanted her to know that I was awake, and I heard her, and she didn’t have to be afraid until she reached the end of the dark hallway.

God: Exactly. I hear you, my child. I hear your thoughts racing like feet down the dark hallway. There’s another side to all of this. I’m there already. I’ve seen the end of it. And I want you to know right here as you walk through it all, you’re okay. I haven’t gone to sleep, and I won’t.

Me: *crying* Can we sit together awhile? Can we just sit here a minute before I go back to facing it all?

God: There’s nothing I’d love more.
