growth and Dave’s new venture

by Shawni

At the end of the summer Dave surprised me with news that he thought he might go back to school to get a Masters degree in Global Management. It is a program through Thunderbird that he had done some research on and was getting kind of excited about.

I’m sure the look of surprise I gave him at that news must have been a funny one. Really? Go back to school? Now?

I guess I shouldn’t have been so surprised…he’s always had a little itch to go back to school. One of my favorite things about him is that he loves to learn. And progress.

When he got accepted we had a little family celebration dinner (it was when everyone was home), and Max and I made him this little sign just for kicks 🙂

And then, a couple weeks later, he headed out the door for his first day.

It was two weeks of school in-person, then it’s [mostly] every other weekend full days, and it has been a pretty cool thing to witness. I don’t think he realizes how much he’s learning until we get into discussions about some of the concepts and he tells me about some of the people he has had the opportunity to get to know and learn from. He even has a personal life coach as part of the program. He was hesitant at first, but he has learned so much. This schooling thing kind of rocks:)

I get to be a bystander and have loved it. He has read some really great books, some that I have now read too because he got me so interested. I’ll come back to report on a couple next week.

But for now: GO DAVID!

This is AWESOME! I was applying to graduate school when my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I decided to put my schooling on hold so I could help her. That was 9 years ago. I am 48. This has inspired me and given me hope that maybe I will still be able to go back and get that Master’s degree some day. 😉
Way to go, Dave! What a supportive family too!

Go Dave!! If I were independently wealthy I would just go to school all the time, there are so many programs that sound interesting.

I would love to see the books you have read. Always looking for a global perspective

Congrats to Dave. This is great news.

Just curious, in the picture of Dave on his 1st day, what are the little steps underneath the tall cupboards?

Shawni March 19, 2021 - 9:55 am

Those are just stools from IKEA so we can reach the tall stuff in the pantry.

Hi Shawni,
Thank you for answering my question.

Ikea’s furniture is great.
