Home motherhood “God must not have thought much of you to send you those easy kids”

“God must not have thought much of you to send you those easy kids”

by Shawni

My parents speak about parenting all over the world, and I know I’m a little biased, but they have some good material:)

One of the stories they tell is from one summer up at Bear Lake.

We were at Sunday school in Dingle, Idaho (that’s where we go to church on Sundays up there and yes, “Dingle,” love it), and one visitor from the “big city” started bragging about his kids. Oh they were so good! They made good choices, they got good grades, one was the valedictorian blah, blah, blah. Finally one farmer from that little town had had enough and raised his hand. “wow, God sure must not have thought much of you to send you all those easy kids!”

I thought about this story on Sunday as I got to spend Mother’s Day with these darling girls (and that handsome guy behind them):

And I got to talk to those married couples off far and away.

My heart wanted to burst with gratitude that they call me mom.

And multiple times during the day I thought to myself, “gosh, God must not have thought much of me…” Ha!!

I talked about the gift I gave myself yesterday, but let’s talk about some other gifts:

I got to go to church and gather with ALL the women in Relief Society (usually a bunch of them are serving as teachers and leaders in Primary and Young Women, but the men graciously took over all their Sunday responsibilities). Someone sent this pic to me and I love it so much:

I feel so incredibly lucky to be enveloped in the same church congregation with these women who teach me so much every day.

Plus we got cinnamon rolls, so you can’t go wrong with that, right?

We opted for breakfast after church since church is at 9, and look at these sweeties:

Love them.

Dave and Lucy were the chefs of the day.

We had FHE (our little Come Follow Me family meeting that I love) and hung out, had an early dinner…then headed here:

With everyone else and their dog who apparently had the same idea:)

Nothing like a good “Mother’s Day hike” (short and sweet with our Lucy girl).

We got to talk to my mother I adore more than I could say en route, (as well as those married kids on FaceTime, wish I took a pic!), and then got to go bring flowers and some love to Dave’s incredible mother before heading home:

(More about those mothers as well as Abby and Carson’s mothers in my post on Sunday back HERE.)

And yes, all the while I couldn’t help but think about those “easy kids” of mine who made me “mom.”

Love them forever.

And even more, I adore this guy in the middle below who gave them to me, and who is the best parenting partner in the whole wide world:
