I got to walk around the high school running into Jonah, Aja and Elsie between classes the other night at “meet-the-teacher” night…

…and I thought to myself once again, it is pretty grand to have an extra brother and his family around here.

Especially one who fixes all kinds of things that need to be fixed:

And he and his wife cook with me (nothing better than cooking in the kitchen.

Jonah makes the best granola (and lots of other things) we’ve ever had…I’ll have to share his recipe here if he’ll let me 🙂

And they clean up after me. Which is a pretty great added bonus.

They provide the younger siblings my youngest daughter never had.

Ha!

Lucy is what I call “annoyingly pleased” with Ezra’s antics, (you can kind of tell what they are from those pictures up there), and it’s pretty fun to watch.

Fun to have Ezra’s new teacher around even more often:

And so fun to have a little 10th-grade-companion for Lucy.

Those two love each other and are good for each other in many ways.

Our family dinner discussions are my favorite.

…and game nights aren’t so bad either.

Our piano is constantly being played.

Our pool is full again.

There are partners for Saturday jobs.

There are discussions around the kitchen counter, dissecting life and how we live it.

My neighbor, who actually happened to go on study abroad to Jerusalem with Jonah all those years ago, mentioned that the two of us probably haven’t lived in the same state since I graduated from high school. And I realized she was right.

I think maybe angels directed their path to be right here right now.

Yes, eventually they will find their own place (hopefully close-by), but we’re kind of digging this arrangement for the time being.

There’s nothing like living close to family.

  1. You and your brother have the same long limbs at an angle standing position! 🙂 Thank you for being such a booster for big families and investing in adult sibling relationships.

  2. This is such a treat for taking the sting out of a nearly-empty house! Are they moving to the desert permanently?

  3. I’d keep them as long as you can!!! We had to move for work to a state my sister lives in for two years…and we lived with her! It seemed a long two years in some small ways, but looking back, it went so fast and it’s such a precious memory now.
