If you’re like me, you may be needing a few more ideas for Christmas gifts that you can get here fast! So here’s one more quick list: Our 10 favorite family games this year.

We are big into games in our family.

There is nothing better than a good game to gather a family together in my opinion.

If you are getting ready for Christmas and you are looking for games to play with your family, you can check out my post with all kinds of games and instructions, but we thought it would be fun to brainstorm together for one more list of gift ideas and share our very favorite board/card games for this past year.

Because isn’t it the BEST when you find a new game that your whole family loves?

Here’s a list of our ten favorites.

10 Favorite Family Games for 2022

Probably the majority of the games we play involve just a deck of cards,
so I guess we better start with our tried and true:

Playing Cards

We play everything from “Lucky Unders” to “Scum”
to our latest favorite with just Dave, Lucy and I at home: “three-man-Hearts” and it’s awesome
because you can carry a stack of cards anywhere (great for a stocking stuffer!)

I better also mention that Dave bought this to accompany our cards when we have game nights sometimes:

Poker Chips

We don’t actually play poker, but these are fun to have as place markers when we play games like “stick-it-to-your-neighbor” and others Dave comes up with. (We got into this during our hunkering-down-covid-days and it was so fun…we got all dressed up fancy for one memorable “casino night” back HERE.)

Sky Jo

If you’ve been following this blog for a while then you have probably seen
multiple pictures of us all around the kitchen table (especially when Jonah’s family was living here with us),
playing this game. It’s a fun one for any age and it’s so easy to learn!

Splendor

Our friends introduced us to Splendor a couple years ago and we gave it to our married kids
for Christmas. We’ve had some good times playing this sucker. (I always lose, but I still love it. ha!)

Rummikub

Rummikub might be our most classic family game. It even made it’s presence on
“the wall” we had made in our game room.
It’s a good thinking game and I need more of those in my life so my brain can get less foggy!

Left, Right, Center

Left, Right, Center is so easy to learn, and works with huge groups. It would make a great stocking stuffer!

Guess Who?

I’m putting this one on here for nostalgic reasons because although we don’t play it any more, it is one of my very favorites and we played it with my little kids until those little pictures just about wore right off!
It’s a great game to keep your brain thinking, and also to teach kids to ask good questions.

Karma

We were just introduced to this one at a game night with our friends, and it’s kind of like our beloved “Lucky Unders”
but with a few twists that keep you guessing. We liked it so much we bought it for our family.

Elle’s Favorites:

Skull King

Learned this game from Carson’s family & we play it ALL the time now. We have introduced it to so many groups of friends. You can play with up to 8 people. I think this is our all-time fav.

Kubb Cube Game

Another game we love to play. We got it for our wedding & it is really fun to play with each other or another couple.
We play on the beach, on the grass, & it is fun to get outside. 🙂

Code Names

This one has been around for a bit, but still a crowd-pleaser. Love this one with family & friends,
& you can even play with pretty big groups (Lu is my fav partner though).

Ok, there you go!

  1. Amazon has Skyjo on sale, plus an extra 25% off coupon. Just ordered it for 2023 family game nights. Thanks for the recommendations.

  2. I know you’re asked this cuz you mentioned it in October that it’s one of the most frequently asked questions you get, but I can’t find the answer of it in searching on your blog… so I’ll ask (again…. Excuse me if you already answered it somewhere…) where did you buy your round table? And lazy susan? 😉 Would love to know! I saw one custom made online… wondering if if it’s similarly custom built, and where to find one. Thank you! Also… Thank you for sharing your game recommendations! I bought Skull King, Chameleon, Codenames, and Karma for my kids for Christmas and we’ve been really enjoying playing these games together the last 4 days… the kids are loving them! Yay! 🙂
