This last week my life-long dream has finally come true:

The dream of having seven kids.

Since Max and Elle are the oldest grand kids by a couple years, and because it just sort of fell into place, Max’s friend came up from the desert with Dave last weekend, and Elle’s cousin caught a ride with my sister’s friend who was coming up to the lake.

My kids are over the moon about that arrangement. These two are addicted to driving:
(of course, not really with Elle hanging off the roof)

And helping with the little kids:

And the teenagers? Well, this about sums up their time here so far:
They can’t get enough of this thing…oh and ping pong too…lots of that.

Love these kids. I hope they don’t get too homesick while they’re here, so we are trying to keep them busy.

  1. I can't believe I just got back from Bear Lake yesterday and didn't even know your family was up there. Would have thought we'd bump into each other at church on Sunday but that circus was bigger than a stake conference. Would have been fun — next year we'll have to touch base and see if our trips cross over. My kids would love it!

  2. Remind me to never show my kids your blog. You have more fun vacations in one summer than we have in 5 years. Looks like a blast! 🙂

  3. Shawni, have you ever heard of this electronic type game called "Bop It". I just bought one for my 5 great kiddos yesterday at Target. They are having competitions on it. It's not a video game and can involve teams and different styles of playing. It was $20.00 and well worth it. Just in case the kids get bored.

  4. I love your blog…your family…your vacations…everything!!!! I too, dreamt of a large family, but that wasn't on my hubby's radar, so we only have 2, but I sure wish I had more!!!!
I can't imagine that those two would ever want to go home!!!!

  5. I, too, would love to join your family!!! I can even up the ante and add five kids to the mix 🙂
What a wonderful way for your children to grow up… surrounded by extended family and so much love!
While my kids don't get that experience, I sure hope their kids do. I'm taking mental notes on all the amazing things your parents do with their grandchildren for the day when it's my turn 🙂 My sixteen year old asked me when we were on vacation this summer if when she's older and married with children, can we all (including her siblings and their kids) meet up for a big family vacation at the spot where we go every year (Hilton Head, SC)? That was music to my ears!!! So there is hope that some day we'll enjoy a summer like you describe! I love hearing about it and all the details. Like I said, I'm filing it away for years down the road 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing your precious family with us!
