Dave’s parents hit their SIXTIETH wedding anniversary last month. And we got to give them a gift that will keep giving: an anniversary video.

Yep, these two have been linked together, through raising nine children, multiple different jobs, moving homes all intermixed with problems and triumphs for sixty years.

And have come out of all those refiner’s fires even more shiny than before. Am I just super biased or do you see that twinkle they both have? How did they get there? What have they done in the midst of storms that have come their way to become better rather than bitter? How have they let their love grow and make them better for all these years?

These are things that need to be recorded and cherished. Precious pieces of a puzzle that can help future generations as they wrestle the things that come their way. We are all fighting so many of the same things in life as we work on relationships.

Relationships have the power to create so much happiness. And yes, sparkle like I feel my inlaws have in abundance.

An anniversary video

As luck would have it, just as this big anniversary was rolling around, I found out my friend’s daughter-in-law Megan and her mother are starting a new business:

The business of recording interviews to capture memories.

And as anyone who has read this blog for a while knows, I am a sucker for capturing memories.

So I had them do a recording session with Dave’s parents for their anniversary.

Excuse the kinda blurry screenshot from the video, but look at those expressions.

I got the video back and was a little emotional watching it. Things captured for them and for us. For their grandkids and their grandkids. The capture of a marriage filled with highs and lows. Two people who have worked together to make life work. To build each other as they built a family.

That is so incredibly powerful to me.

Oh sure, we could have asked some questions ourselves. But there is just something so special about having someone unrelated get details and ask questions you may never even think of to ask. And the video quality and sound are so clear and professional. I love that Megan got my quiet father-in-law talking and sharing so many things I never knew.

Some of the questions (among so many) included:

  • What are your tips for keeping affection and admiration alive in long-term love?
  • How have you maintained your individuality while remaining unified as a couple?
  • What lessons, stories, or traditions do you want preserved in your family history?

Here’s a little clip:

The Website

I’m so excited to share this opportunity for others, because these kinds of memories need to be documented! Whether it is a couple you love or an individual story, whether it’s a birthday or an anniversary or just plain because you want to document, having a video to capture the ups and downs of life is incredibly precious.

It could be anyone at any age or stage, I just believe the living of a good life should be documented.

The “For Those I Love” website gives a lot more information.

I also want to link you to their Instagram page as well as Facebook.

This is a new business and I know these two would love any feedback or special requests as well. So reach out to them at forthoseilovefilms@gmail.com with any questions!

And the awesome thing? They are willing to give 71 Toes readers a ten percent discount if you’d like to have them record your own loved ones.

Happy documenting!

  1. 60 years of marriage is just incredible. How very special and what a lovely record to make and share with your family. Thanks for sharing this! (The cute sister in one of the screenshots served in the DC temple and we loved her! Fun to spot her smiling face!)

  2. Oh goodness. I’m sorry to comment twice, but I just saw the clip and even that one minute is so full of loveliness, I’m teary. I’d love a day to sit and learn from them. I’ll have to work on capturing my own loved ones stories, it’s really so special.
