A Great Way to Connect With to Neighbors

Sometimes it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference. I have to keep reminding myself about that! Dave and I were reminded of this again recently when a cute family in our ward invited us over to play croquet with them for Family Home Evening. That simple invite taught us it doesn’t have to be difficult to connect with neighbors.

We were so touched by the invitation. I mean, our families are not likely hang-out-ers. They have four young boys, we have one recently graduated girl who can tend to be a little fussy. And she has a vision impairment. In our day and age these things seem to create walls. I mean, I think we connect in general less and less. And it can be intimidating to extend an invite.

But I was so grateful this awesome family took the initiative to extend the invite.

A Great Way to Connect through Family Home Evening

As we walked into their home I was hit with so much nostalgia! You see, we had the exact same model of home back when we were the ones with four little kids and one on the way. How have those years passed so fast??

They had a special little FHE program and it was like a sucker punch to miss the old days when we got to do that, but also so special to get to be part of it.

I was seriously so touched that they invited us over. We learned how to play croquet, a tradition passed down from their growing-up family. They made Lucy feel so comfortable and loved. We sat together and ate popsicles for dessert.

It’s amazing how such simple things can do so much to help bond and connect.

Thanks guys, for making us feel so “seen” and loved.

Thanks for taking that step to extend a simple invite.

I hope we can pay it forward!

  1. That’s awesome! I love making connections with people.

Today we had an older gentleman from our ward over for dinner. I heard he loves homemade gravy so we had chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy. We have three children still at home. Our youngest got a little fidgety because we talked and talked for 3 1/2hrs. straight, but even she enjoyed it. He did a lot of the talking, and had such great stories!

It takes a little effort, but I love getting to know people better this way. Our goal is to have someone over once a month. Especially in Arizona summer we get a little cabin fever and we all act a little nicer with company. An added bonus!
