Remember when we went to visit Dave’s sister Christy and her husband who are serving as mission presidents in Sierra Leone, Africa?
And you may remember how they were called to serve for three years in this capacity way back here.
Welp, when you serve as mission presidents you generally stay there for a full three years. Unless one of your kids happens to get married. Or have a baby. Then that mama needs to get home to her own babies.
And guess what? Christy’s daughter had a baby. (And we are SO excited for that new little bundle.) So Christy made the long trek back to the states to visit from Africa for a couple weeks. And since she has kids in the desert as well as where that new baby was born, she made the trek here too.
And we were pretty excited to see her and catch up. Can you tell how excited Lucy is?
Oh man I love that smile!!
You know how some people just have a natural capacity to “bring the party?” Well, Christy is one of those ones. She makes you feel so special, has the best “welcoming response” known to man, and just exudes love and enthusiasm. So when she mentioned an adult lake day would be fun while she was in town, we all jumped at that chance.
I mean, to gather together in an enclosed boat for nothing but talking and catching up and surfing? Sign me right up for that.
As we cruised around that lake on that perfect-weather-desert-day, I got so overwhelmed with love for these people. Not only did I get Dave, but I got all of them along with them.
And people are just important, you know?
So how grateful I was to bask in growing relationships on that lake that day.
This was right on the heels of some more Pothier togetherness to celebrate Dave’s parent’s 60th wedding anniversary (an Alaskan cruise, report on that coming through). So I was already a little emotional thinking about how lucky I am to have these guys.
Then to have Christy too was the cherry on top (she wasn’t able to come on the cruise and we sure missed her!)
It was a day well spent and we drove away so overflowing with gratitude.
My husband got to meet her in August! He was in Sierra Leone for FSY. He also served his mission there. Lovely people!
