Our kids came to town on Labor Day Weekend. Yep, at the tail end of that still-so-hot time of year when we were still in the midst of the hundred-degree-temps-for-a-hundred-days mumbo jumbo. And boy howdy, we were excited to have them.
Ok, everyone happens to actually look a little serious in that pic, (HA). But can you see that little girl there with a huge smile on her face in the middle? Yep, she looked like that most of the time. She is so go-with-the-flow it is so awesome, and we ate that girl up I tell you.
She is the center of the world as far as we are concerned.
Dave and I were pretty thrilled to have our whole Sunday dinner table filled up with people we love.
Wait, somehow Carson missed that photo…and he couldn’t be here as long as everyone else so let’s get him in here:
There we go.
Who’s that extra guy with the mustache you might ask?
That’s Grace’s boyfriend and we were lucky enough to have him join us too.
The first to arrive…
Ok but let’s start at the beginning when these three girls arrived:
(Max arrived too but just on FaceTime for a day…).
We were so excited to get Miss Murphy in our arms.
She was quite enamored with Bo Jangles toys.
The girls helped me on a few house projects I was trying to finish up…Murphy was pretty excited about that ladder.
We swam:
Murphy LOVES the water as you can tell.
Went on walks:
And the next night the rest of the crew arrived.
Boating
One of the best ways to spend time together is at the lake, but the lake close to us was going to be nutty, filled to the brim on Labor Day weekend. So we took the drive to a further lake and we practically had that whole thing to ourselves.
The drive was so beautiful (and good for talking time):
And the lake was such a welcome cool-off from the heat.
The drive home was so beautiful, complete with a rainbow, can you see it?
Came home exhausted but ready for dinner…which was apparently very serious business:
A Monsoon
There was also a monsoon that rolled in, and we cannot ever take those for granted because they are so beautiful, and welcome in the heat.
Especially Lucy loves monsoons filled with deep gray clouds rumbling close.
Games are a must, of course.
Sunday
Church was so great the next day, nothing like having your whole family sitting on your row, love that so much.
And everyone cooking Sunday dinner together in the kitchen? My love language for sure.
Games after dinner and this one was pretty funny.
Our neighbors brought over some Sunday dessert and it was so fun to gather together with all of them.
Carson had to leave for his rotation on Monday morning, but we made a stop at Hole in the Rock before dropping him off at the airport.
Love you Carson!
Labor Day
On Monday we had a big barbecue mixed with swimming, and watching the U.S. Open.
Grace’s boyfriend is not only so polite and kind, but also tall which makes it funny to see Max look short:)
Our friends brought over some peach pie to share which was so delicious, and fun to catch up with them.
Dave and the kids had some investment talks…
Lucy got her wish for evening bowling:
…and it was her lucky day because she got three strikes!
We grabbed dinner quick after that and I made everyone stop in their tracks over their tacos so I could tell them I love them. Like REALLY love them. How did I get so lucky to call them mine?
The End
Sad it all had to come to an end.
One more workout with Elle before the seventh and final airport run.
And that is a wrap. A Labor Day weekend for the books!
So wonderful to have a full house and nearly all your kids at home!
So happy to see Grace happy 🙂 And taller than Max?? Must be pushing 7 feet haha!
How tall is Grace’s boyfriend?!?!
So nice to have all your (stateside) kids home at once!
Can you share what you and Dave discuss with the kids about investments? Always interested to hear how to have those chats with young adult kids. Thanks!
What a fun weekend!! It makes me miss all of the fun I used to have with my family not so long ago. We also had a large house when I was growing up and a really nice pool. I couldn’t possibly count how many weekend get-togethers were spent lounging on rafts and inner tubes, eating ice cream bars, and yakking as if we hadn’t just done the exact same thing two weeks before!! Boy do I miss those weekends.
And I have to say that every time I see a picture of Murphy in that red bathing suit, it just makes me smile!! With those little summa wrestler legs and that toddler tummy sticking out, it makes me want to hug and snuggle a little one again!! What a doll. Families are the best!!
If I didn’t know these photos were recent I would have thought the one of Grace holding your granddaughter in the pool was you holding baby Grace! What a special season this is for all of you! Especially for Miss Murphy getting to be the star of the show 😂
