One of the reasons (among the many) we couldn’t go to NIH a couple weeks ago was because of our huge stake activity day that we, as the stake primary presidency were putting on. We have close to 300 girls between the ages of eight to twelve in our stake who were invited to attend the big day.
These ladies who put it on are AMAZING (minus that tall one in hot-pink in the middle…she’s not quite so on-the-ball, but she did help). The planning and organization it took was quite remarkable to behold, especially from Trudy and Karen (those two in the black and white up there).

The theme was “Priceless Gems.” Each thing the girls got to do was centered around how we are daughters of God and therefore we are so precious to him. Each station focused on a different facet of how we can take care of what He has given us and make our “light” shine.

Each ward had a table all decked out showing the things they have done together this year to build up their relationship with God.

Trudy single-handedly made 300 of these flower headbands for the girls:(I think she roped her daughters in to help though….do you think those girls like them???)

We made smoothies to talk about taking care of our bodies:

In one station the girls got to learn how to do fingernail polish in flowers on their toes.

And another one the girls wrote notes to each other about what makes them “precious.”At the end we gave them necklaces to remind them of how important they are in God’s eyes.

My girls (plus some neighbors) and I had quite a time putting them together before the big day.

One of my friends who is also an awesome dancer (she and her daughter along with Elle were the stars of this video back here…my fav. youtube video I think ever), made up the cutest dance that she and these cute girls below taught all those hundreds of girls as they came through in their groups. At the end we had them all do it together. I wish you could feel the energy and happiness in that room through a video…

All in all, it was just such a great reminder that no matter who we are, or what we look like, or what our talents may or may not be, we are all daughters of God. If we choose to, we can all let the light of Christ shine through our many facets and light up life around us.

Have you ever heard of GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Saviour)girls program? (

Our girls go–it is a Christian program with a lot of the same ideas–they LOVE it. It has great curruculum and a monthly magazine. Just thought it was cool that it is based on the same idea!

  5. DUH–I should have read pakosta's comment about GEMS above me. But, it is an awesome program, so it's worth mentioning twice!

  6. That was Emily's first ever activity days and she had a fabulous time. Thanks for all of the hard work that you and the other leaders put into making it so fantastic. Our children are so blessed to have such great teachers, leaders, friends and examples. Thanks for sharing pictures, it was fun to see what they did.

  7. oh wow, wish they did that at our church! my daughter would love it eventhough she's too little- and painting flowers on your toenails would be right up her alley – at 4!

looks like an amazing event and something that our children need to be taught!

  8. You know, sitting here in the Bay Area I'm just thinking how amazing it is that people put all this kind of time and effort into our kids, to help them. IT really does a heart happy. 🙂

  9. What an awesome activity! I feel so blessed to be a member of a stake that has such amazing leaders. All those who make a difference in the lives of our children are gems in my eyes.
