Today, on the eve of Thanksgiving, there is a lot of commotion running around in my head. I woke up in the dark of the early morning with my heart rushing. How do I carve out enough from the “to-dos” swirling around in there to express all the gratitude in it?

And then I remembered this quote:

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

–John F. Kennedy

So I’m off to live by those words. To slow down enough to spill out my heart with my actions moving into the holidays. Sometimes kids are the best examples of living by gratitude:)

Oh there is so much to be grateful for it makes me teary even to think about.

But for this spot here on the blog this morning, I wanted to take a minute to be grateful for YOU. Readers who have come here and taught me and supported our family from near and far. For so many years. Our life has been enriched by you in so many ways. Sending so much love to you wherever these words may find you this Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving, dear blog readers. May we all invite stillness into today to remember the big and little things that give us hope. And to use our actions to live in gratitude.

XOXO

I am thankful for you! I am thankful for your example! May you be blessed with the strength for all you do this holiday season. The Turkey Trot is amazing and helps so many through BBS research.

  3. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving back to you! I’ve been reading your blog for 15 years and it’s given me a lot to think about on my parenting journey. My 5 kids are similarly aged to yours, and I have a son with special needs. It’s interesting to see how, despite making some different parenting decisions to yours, living the gospel daily in our home means we have a lot of similarities. Even though you don’t know me, I feel like we’re internet friends!

  4. A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family too, Shawni. Your blog is the first thing I read every morning. It grounds me and I am so grateful for this slice of normalcy in a sometimes chaotic and weird world nowadays. Shine on sister!
