Welp, the sun is setting on the Easter celebrations of yet another year. Oh I’m so grateful to celebrate that miracle that rescues me and you.

I do have to say I just had to re-read this post from a few years ago to give me a little pep talk, because man, sometimes Easter makes me so nostalgic! What is wrong with me? Maybe because Lucy is graduating and it really is the end of an era? Maybe because after so many years of wrapping my heart around my kids on Easter I have to learn to wrap it a little differently? I mean, I have grandkids now, for crying out loud. And man, they sure make it fun. And different. It’s beautiful in a whole different way.

These older kids make it different, and so good in their own way too. They have become my peers in so many ways.

Our Kids’ Easter Messages

My favorite thing about Easter this year is that we got to be together with many of those older kids. And Dave made sure we let them be in charge of our family home evening after church. (I love that guy.)

I love the parts of the Easter story they shared that made us all think.

Jesus Washing the Apostle’s Feet

One of the kids brought up a question as to why Jesus washing the apostles’ feet was one of the last acts he did. Made us think so much about the incredible humility He portrayed. What an example for each of us with human nature pushing us in ways that can be so unlike Jesus.

Judas Betrayal

Another kid (adult) brought up Judas’s betrayal of Jesus and made us think more deeply about that background. Where was he coming from? What do we maybe not know? What can we learn?

Joy

I love that a couple of them talked about the pure JOY that came when Mary and the apostles realized Jesus was resurrected.

One mentioned the joy in this video, see if you can watch the end without crying:

Oh I love to hear the thoughts of these older kids. Thanks guys, for really making me think.

The Miracle that Rescues Me

I love the children’s song called “The Miracle.”

These words just speak to me:

Jesus walked upon the water.
He stilled the storm and calmed the angry sea.
With His hands He healed the leper.
He made the lame to walk, the blind to see.
He fed a thousand people with a loaf or two of bread.
And when the ruler’s daughter died,
He raised her from the dead.

Chorus

Jesus is a God of miracles;
Nothing is at all impossible to Him.
But I know this:
Of all His miracles, the most incredible must be
The miracle that rescues me!

Jesus bled and died to save me—
A price that I could never pay alone.
When He rose again, He gave me
The greatest gift the world has ever known!
Yes, I can be forgiven every time that I repent,
And someday He will lift me up to live with Him again.

Chorus

Jesus is a God of miracles;
Nothing is at all impossible to Him.
But I know this:
Of all His miracles the most incredible must be
The miracle that rescues me,
The miracle that rescues you and me!

I do believe that “nothing is at all impossible to Him.”

And I do believe that through Him, all the darkness will be made right somehow.

Happy Easter, everyone!

  1. My friend shared a post yesterday that made me think. She said on Jesus last day, he wasn’t thinking “ this is my last day, I’m going to eat all the yummy things, party, do whatever I want” no, he washed feet. He was serving.. such a beautiful thought on where we can focus our lives

  2. It’s inspiring to see how your family has embraced both tradition and growth, especially with the older kids stepping into leadership roles. The discussions on humility, betrayal, and joy really highlight the depth of the Easter story.
