The Week Before the Reunion: Sunsets, Siblings, and Serendipity

We went up to Utah pre-reunion to help Lucy with her computer problem and also to prepare for the Eyre family reunion we were in charge of this year with all our might. There were some fun things mixed in with all the computer-fixing and reunion prep that I need to keep track of. Things including reuniting with Bo Jangles, basking in Utah beauty, an impromptu meet-up with my brothers and their families, my nephew’s missionary homecoming, and a quick overnight up at Bear Lake with Lucy and her cousins and roommates.

My brother Josh, who is now co-owner of our dog Bo Jangles, drove her up to Utah and hung with her for a little bit before we got there. It was a fun reunion not only with that dog, but also with my parents and nephew who was up there.

And wouldn’t you know it, but it just so happened that when I went to go pick up that dog, a few of my brothers were there with their kids. So we went for a serendipity dinner on the porch of a mediterranean restaurant basking in togetherness.

My parents were leaving the next day to take this group of grandkids on a little pre-reunion trip tradition (they do that with every age group of grandkids when they reach a certain age…they are grandparents extraordinaire I tell you!)

Can you tell how excited they were on the eve of that little trip? And can you tell how excited I was to get to meet up with them? I know I’m biased but you guys, these men are the cream of the crop and I learn so much from them every time I’m with them. We were just missing Noah that night.

Jonah lives in Hawaii/Washington, Tal lives in Switzerland, Eli lives in New York City, and Josh lives by us. So it was a grand reunion to be together talk, talk, talking.

An quick overnight to Bear Lake

The next day Jo and I drove up to Bear Lake for a quick overnight. Lucy’s cousins and her incredible roommate were up there and I just felt compelled to help pave the way to get her up there too.

I didn’t get a single picture of Lucy with those cousins and roommate, but I’m so, so glad we got to go.

We all came back to town for my nephew Charlie’s homecoming. Boy, it was so good. And there’s NOTHING like the joy on parents’ faces when you get your son home from a mission.

He gave an excellent talk, and then it was just so good to gather…this time with my brother Noah too.

Dave and I finally gave Tal his Christmas gift from a couple years ago (hard to get to him in Switzerland!), but it’s his “hut” that he and his wife have there. A pretty special place for all of us.

Dave and I headed to finish our reunion planning before we’d head to the lake with our family (more to come on that).

We needed to soak in the sunset too.

Is there anything like a sunset to calm a troubled or overwhelmed soul?

I think not.
