Two Birthdays in Three Days

We have two birthdays right after Thanksgiving in our family. David and Abby.

David’s Birthday

Dave lucks out that his birthday is right during the holidays because it means that lots of the kids are usually still around.

The drawback is the same: it’s right after the holiday.

And man alive, there’s a lot swirling around.

I already talked about all the fun that happened over Thanksgiving weekend. His birthday was right smack-dab in the middle of it all.

And we basked in it all despite the chaos.

Gosh I sure love this David of mine and the chance to celebrate him.

We made a big breakfast:

We went to hot yoga (his favorite) all together except for Max who stayed with the little girls:

We took a good walk through the glistening winter sun to see the animals in the farm properties nearby.

We whipped up a big pot roast dinner (also his favorite). The only photo I got of dinner was of these two before we dug in:

Oh, and Murphy’s awesome hairpiece, of course.

Birthday Bunco Night

After dinner we headed to my niece’s house where she had invited everyone to gather for a fun what will hopefully become a traditional annual Bunco night. Because it was so fun.

It just so happened that my nephew was born on Dave’s birthday, so we had two people to celebrate.

We played Bunco all night, moving around tables as we went, giving time with so many different configurations of family members.

My favorite part?

Lucy carrying her magnifier around with her every time she moved, completely delighted with this game, in her very element:

Then prizes for the winners:

Birthday song along with traditional Pothier birthday cheer:

It was such a fun night.

Home and Packing the Kids Up

When we got home it felt like that scene in Home Alone where everyone is scrambling to get out the door to the airport and there’s so much going on. The kids were all packing up to make the drive back up to Utah the next day and trying to gather everything they’ve ever wanted from our house we’d let them take. From a blender to my boots to bulletin boards and everything in between. Ha!

Dave and I looked at each other in the middle of it all just laughing it was so funny.

Anyway, that carload full of precious cargo took off and then it was just Dave, Abby and the girls, and me. For Sunday and Monday morning at least before Dave had to leave out of town. We felt so lucky Abby was willing to stay a little longer. Fun to have them with us and to have Sunday dinner with our friends who had made a Japanese curry late-bday dinner for Dave.

Abby’s Birthday

And THEN, it was Abby’s birthday.

Man we are so lucky to have this girl in our family. She is so conscientious, fits right in with all her new sisters, is the best conversationalist, and is my daughter who calls and touches bases the most. For real. I adore her for that. She is tough, creative and fun all wrapped up in the same package and I love her so much!

For this year and last, we have lucked out to have the birthday girl on the morning of her birthday and then she has flown home. I promise we have not inflicted this on her, she has made her own flights. And we feel so lucky to get her even for the first little bit of that birthday.

We had a pretty rushed morning getting out the door, but of course we had to blow out candles with the girls.

It’s always a little scary to travel with two toddlers in tow.

But this girl knows how to do things right. I got to walk her all the way in through security to her gate and felt so lucky to be together.

Goodbye girls, until next time!
