What Parents Need to Know About A.I. – Artificial Intelligence

While I was at the Faith Matters Restore conference a couple weeks ago, there were breakout sessions during lunch. My siblings and I wanted to go to all of them because they all sounded so intriguing. So we divided and conquered…and took notes for each other. My sister Saren went to the session about what parents need to know about A.I.

That evening, as we sat at my sister Charity’s house talking deep about all we learned, I started to get a pit in my stomach learning about A.I. I mean, artificial intelligence is pretty awesome in so many ways. It can be an incredible tool. But our discussion made me feel extra protective of my kids. I want to be aware of not only the awesome things, but the darker pitfalls that come along with this gig we call A.I.

Education gives us power. As parents as well as as individuals trying to create a good life and share light.

A Class to Teach Parents about A.I.

SO, I’m so excited my sister is hosting the amazing Neylan McBain, who taught the class at Faith Matters, to teach an online class this coming Wednesday, October 29th. Here’s what she shared on Power of Families:

Whether we like it or not, A.I. is here to stay. It’s our job as parents to help our kids learn about and navigate the opportunities and challenges of A.I. But most of us don’t know very much about A.I. so it’s hard to know where to begin!

I’ve teamed up with my dear friend, Neylan McBaine, to offer a FREE online training called “What Parents Need to Know about A.I.” on Wednesday, October 29th at 12 noon (mountain time).

Neylan is a mother, a Yale University graduate, and has led interfaith and policy work for Project Liberty, specifically focused on ethical considerations around social media and artificial intelligence. She is also an advisor to the nonprofit, AI and Faith, and is on the steering committee for Human Flourishing at Partnership AI. We’re so lucky that she’s agreed to offer this training for us!

This one-hour FREE training will help us understand:

  • what Artificial Intelligence really is
  • how kids are using A.I. in both positive and negative ways
  • 3 key problems A.I. can create for our kids
  • what you can do to help your kids understand and use A.I. in a helpful, limited, and safe manner

Sounds pretty great, right?

Would love to know how other parents feel about A.I. Any crazy or amazing experiences? We are on a journey to figure this all out! I’m so excited to hear Neylan’s take on it all.

Happy Weekend!
XOXO

  1. Crazy story. My husband runs a business and one of his staff mentioned that he was trying to create a “second brain” to help him do his tasks in a more efficient way. He became obsessed and was up for days on end and started losing it. Needless to say, he doesn’t work there any longer. It’s so wild how obsessed it can make people become.
