In lieu of a Q & A today I’m doing a give-away in honor of Father’s Day next Sunday.

Because that special day is sneaking up fast I tell you. I still cannot figure out how it is June so fast.  Weren’t we just shopping for Christmas yesterday?

And because my friend from Time Out for Women‘s husband just happened to write a good book that would be a perfect gift for the big day.

This book is funny and light enough to be a perfect read for Dad while he’s getting a foot rub from your five-year-old but it is full of great, quick tips on how to make the most of this important job of dad-hood.  (More book information here.)

My favorite “rules”?  I love #33: “When you mess up, say ‘I’m sorry.'”  Soooo important as a parent in my mind because we all mess up, right?   And I love #74: “Keep learning, and share what you learn with your children.”  I love that one.  He ends that tip with this cool quote: “Tell me, I’ll forget; show me and I may remember, involve me and I’ll understand.”

Wait, maybe this book is really “Mom Rules” as well 🙂  There are a bunch of things I want to incorporate as a mother on top of the good Dad stuff.

So, enter a comment to win this little gem and I’ll announce the winner on Monday.

Love, Shawni

  5. Always hard to find good father's day gifts for my hubby. Sounds like a great book. Hope I win! By the way, I've given your book to several people and recommended it to a ton.

  6. The book looks awesome, and I love the cover. I am not married, and my father passed on in 1978. For fathers day every year, I give a gift to my mother… as she was left to be mother and father to 5 children. This would be a perfect Fathers Day Gift for my Mother.

  7. OO, i would love this for my hubby. Already a great dad, we have a sharp learning curve with 6 kiddos 6 and under. We love gleaning wisdom from others in addition to the wisdom life and heavenly father give us!

  8. I think sometimes we assume that men aren't interested in parenting and that the parenting books are really written for Moms, but perhaps we need to give them something like this that they can relate to! Great idea!

  9. I found your blog through a pinterest post about the 7 things you do with your kids. Been reading ever since. My husband and I did two of the 7 things on your list already but added the extra time once a week for each child at night. We love it! And our girls love it. Just last night our 6 year old had her night, and we stayed up an extra 30 minutes playing Go Fish! So thanks for all your insight:)

  10. Wow, I can't believe Father's day is almost here either! That sounds like a great book for Dad (and Mom), thanks for the giveaway!

  12. I read your “Mothers Book of Secrets” while I was expecting our now 9-month-old, red head daughter, Emma. I tore through it quickly and then re-read, cried, and made mental notes on what I needed to implement. It’s currently on my nightstand. My husband is currently a student and we are working to make ends meet. He rarely gets to read for pleasure, with his massive text books beckoning him 24/7. Oh how grateful I am that he is such a hard worker. I know winning this book would not only be a blessing – to be able to hand him something less “taxing” – but it would be a great tool for both of us as we are working to raise a competent, responsible, righteous family. Thanks for the chance to win, and really… Thanks for writing – you are a positive role model for mothers who are striving to be good moms.

  13. While I do not think my husband needs any improvement. I think he would enjoy this book…he is such an amazing dad and is always trying to improve.

We are expecting our second child on July 6th (another son) and in April I broke my ankle. My husband has wore himself ragged taking care of me, our son, the house and his work. He deserves extra special treatment this year. So any tips/ideas you could post about making father's day special would also be appreciated in the week to come.

  14. I actually know Treion! I have been planning on buying his book for my husband – but it would be even better to WIN it!

  15. My girls always miss their Dad when he's away for work, and he misses them too. This book would give him some great ideas for ways he can help compensate for his absences. 🙂

  16. In Germany we already celebrated Father's Day in May (in fact my husband celebrated with his best friends, while I watched the kids :o), but my husband is going to leave for a two week buisness trip to New York and Toronto in two weeks and this would be the perfect read for the flight. Fingers are crossed!

  17. Would love to win!! Our first daughter is turning 7 months and she's already a daddy's girl, so we do need some rules around here!!! 😉

  18. This looks like the perfect father's day gift (and gift for mom 🙂 You, your family, and your blog are such an inspiration to me and many others. Thank you, thank you.

  19. I can't wait for Father's Day! my husband is amazing and I feel so blessed to be raising a family with him. He is an unbelievable team leader and team mate. I love being on his team!

  20. Shawns, I was just trying to think of the perfect Father's Day gift for my newest little guy's Dad. This will be perfect! Can I please win it?
