This morning we woke up to get ready for church and discovered we had no hot water.

And I thought I knew all about drama (having four girls) before the blood-curdling screams began.
It gave me a glimpse into our future home when we hit the teenage years.
We’re pretty much gonna be in trouble.

(Let’s have it be known that tough-guy Max got up before everyone else, took a freezing cold shower and didn’t even make a peep about it.)

But an hour or so later as I glanced over my girls sitting in a row at church I remembered that the drama is so quickly canceled out by their sweetness. How lucky am I to have these wise souls by my side. And how lucky are they to have each other?
Because, really, there’s nothing like a sister…drama and all.

p.s. Don’t worry, our super good-looking handy-man (David) was able to fix the hot water problem after all the agonizing hoopla this morning. (He re-lit the pilot light.) And we are ever more grateful for hot water!

  1. So sorry about the cold showers. That's no fun.
But I must say how impressed I am by that last pic by Elle!!!
    So creative & technically awesome.
In fact I recently saw a picture really similar to that on a photographer's blog somewhere.
    Good job Elle!!!
    You have talent girl!

  2. Yes you are lucky to have 4 girls! I've been blessed with just 1 girl and 3 boys and man do I wish she had a sister! I am so close with my sister…is 42 too old to try for another?? 🙂

  3. Ahhhhh the little things in life (hot water). It's funny we don't recognize how much luxury we have until it's taken away from us.
I grew up in a house in the middle of the jungle in Hawaii and we didn't have plumbing or electricity. We used to have a huge metal tub in the "shower house" and if we wanted a hot bath, we would have to heat the water ourselves. Talk about adventure. I used to think that was normal until I went to a friend's house to play and I asked where the "out house" was. I never knew about indoor toilees. Ahhh luxury!
I have three sisters and they are priceless to me. Yes, there was lot of drama too, but we were and still are best friends as well as sisters.

  4. I won't even start about the drama of the later years…but it pretty much all centers around hair. And it's NOT fun. History repeating itself is one of the most annoying things.

  5. Oh dear, what Sarah above me said scares me. Having curly, pretty easy hair myself, I am sometimes lost when it comes to my girls' hair. Your girls' hair always looks really put together. My hope is that eventually our girls will start doing each others! Sunday mornings are not always easy here–I cna't imagine what it would be like with no hot water. You did good!

  6. Hey Shawni, post the one of Lucy in that gorgeous pink on the I Love Lucy Project site okay? Is she about the cutest thing you ever saw or what?
