home sweet home: family room/kitchen

by Shawni

I posted pictures of our kitchen “spruce-up” back here, but the family room and dining nook weren’t done yet. So here they are.

Our family room/kitchen went from this:
to this:

…and the view coming from the other direction went from this:to this:
The dining nook went from this:
to this:(For more about that map, click here.)

And the family room took a lot of different looks before we really decided what we wanted. It went from this:

to this:
to this:
and finally to this:
I had some of my favorite places printed up on canvases to add some color:
(The top one is Wellesley College, middle is Bear Lake, and the last one is Utah.)

And you can read about the saga of making our family motto here.
Anyway, it’s finally done, and we love how bright and light it feels.

When I first saw those canvases, I wasn't sure if they were canvas or not. Amazing that it was about the time I was taking your artwork and putting it on canvases for the I Love Lucy project! So, if any of your readers want canvases like that (or with their own photos) and would like to contribute to the I Love Lucy project at the same time, message me or click over to http://www.ilovelucyproject.weebly.com.

My name is Maria Thompson and I live in Utah – I was able to attend the Time out for Women's confernece in February and heard you and your mother speak! It was wonderful and your book is a great guide to parenting.
Ever since attedning, I have occasionally logged onto your blog to see the fun new ideas that you and your family are doing. I love reading your blog and getting the greatest ideas to help rear my children.
Thank you for inspiring me and for the fun decorating ideas. I too, enjoy decorating and take pictures.
I have one question for you and maybe if you get a chance you can email me at mtloan@readytek.net with an answer.
I love how you transformed your kitchen cabinets from wood to white. Did you paint those or did you get all new cabinets?
Thanks again!

Hi Shawni! We frequently visit Bear Lake also and I love your picture of the bright blue sky! Is it possible to purchase this photo from you? I'm putting together a wall collage with a poem about swinging(flying) up in the sky. This would compliment it perfectly!
