Grace’s last missionary email

by Shawni

Grace is home.

And it’s the best thing in the world. I have more to say about that than I can even grapple with right now, will get to it all soon, but for now this:

This last letter of hers was supposed to post this morning and never did, so better late than never.

Here we go:

This past week was so good!
Some highlights:

  • Our friend, Lorena accepted our invitation to be baptized! So excited for her!
  • we did loooooots of service
  • An 8 year old in our branch got baptized and it was so cute and special
  • We had a really good lesson with a family that we’re now teaching!
  • also we got permission to leave our area to go to Buc-ee’s today, just a cherry on top!
So many good things! So grateful!

It’s hard for me to put into words what my mission has meant to me and the immense love and gratitude that I feel to be set apart as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. What a privilege!

I have learned more than I could’ve ever imagined in the past year and a half. I’ve learned so much about myself and the person I want to become, people and different cultures, the gospel, and most importantly, Jesus Christ and His perfect example and incomprehensible sacrifice for us.

I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting the past week or so, reading my past journals and notes and reflecting back on what my mission has been. My heart is full of so much love. And wow am I grateful. There’s not a grand enough word to describe how I feel about the past 18 months of my life but grateful will have to suffice.

Man has it been the hardest year and a half of my life but the things I’ve learned have changed my life and my perspective. My mission has been the turning point of my life.

I have learned that the times that I am the happiest and most joyful are the times that I turn to God and put everything in His hands and invite Him to be the author and finisher of my story. He knows us perfectly and knows what’s best for us. It’s not easy but as we strive to do so, he will bless us in every aspect of our lives!!
I have also learned the importance of the Book of Mormon and the power that it holds. It answers all of life’s questions and has helped me come closer to Christ more than anything else.
And I have come to know so deeply that when we follow His commandments and seek His will in all that we do, we experience joy without measure.

“Joy. Hope. Sustaining power from God. Protection from temptation. Healing. All of these—and more (including forgiveness of sins)—distill upon us from heaven as we share the gospel.” – Elder Nash
This is so true. I’ve seen it time and time again as a missionary and I’m excited to continue forward, helping others come unto Christ and witness the incomprehensible joy that comes from the gospel when we exercise faith, repent, are baptized and partake of the Sacrament every week, receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, and endure faithfully to the end.

Something I know of a surety is that God loves all of His children. You are His child and He loves you with an infinite and eternal love and He knows you perfectly. Don’t ever forget that.
I love this gospel and it’s simplicity so much and I love the opportunities and blessings that it brings.
I am just SO grateful ❤

Love y’all lots

These words were exactly what I needed to hear today: “I have learned that the times that I am the happiest and most joyful are the times that I turn to God and put everything in His hands and invite Him to be the author and finisher of my story. He knows us perfectly and knows what’s best for us. It’s not easy but as we strive to do so, he will bless us in every aspect of our lives!!”

I both loved and needed this reminder to turn to God. I don’t know if it “counts” as ministering since I am quite firm in my own beliefs as a Catholic, but through these words, I feel like Grace is still ministering even though her mission is over. So thank you!!!

Oh I love this so much Molly! So glad there were some words you needed to hear. They were words I needed as well! And I believe everything we do to love and buoy each other “counts” so beautifully no matter what religion we are in, as we join together to try to learn grace and love.
